NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort has opened Caravela, its new signature fine-dining restaurant, offering a culinary experience that integrates Spanish and Maldivian flavours. The launch was marked by a formal opening attended by Loredana Groza, the Romanian singer and cultural figure.
A Unique Culinary Concept Caravela represents a first in the Maldives, combining elements of Spanish and Maldivian cuisine within a fine-dining framework. The restaurant takes its name from the historic caravels that once connected Spain to the Indian Ocean, and its concept is inspired by the maritime voyages that facilitated trade and cultural exchange between these regions.
Menu and Dining Experience The restaurant offers multi-course tasting menus designed to reflect the journey of historic trade routes. Currently, a seven-course degustation menu is available, showcasing Iberian culinary traditions alongside Maldivian ingredients and local seafood. In time, three distinct tasting menus are planned, each representing:
- Atlantic voyages along the African coast
- Pacific crossings to the Americas and Asia
- The Indian Ocean route connecting Africa, Arabia, India, and the Maldives
The menu aims to provide a chronological culinary narrative, linking flavours and techniques to historical exploration.
Immersive Elements Caravela is intended as more than a restaurant; it is designed as an immersive experience. Nautical map-inspired menus and storytelling accompany each course, encouraging guests to engage with the history behind the dishes in an intimate, limited-seating environment.
Wine Pairing Complementing the menu is a curated wine selection that traces the historic trade routes, from Spanish Cavas to structured reds from Stellenbosch, providing a parallel narrative alongside the food.
Caravela is positioned as a distinctive addition to the Maldivian dining scene, combining gastronomy, history, and atmosphere to create a focused and narrative-driven experience for guests.
