STILL  HAVE  A SPECIAL FEELING FOR CRICKET LOVING PEOPLE OF BENGAL, SAYS FORMER TEST CRCKETER CHETAN SHARMA AT SHRISTINAGAR PREMIER LEAGUE IN ASANSOL

ASANSOL, 30 APRIL 2023:

“ I have a special feeling and love for crcket loving bengalies,”said former Indian test  cricketer, Chetan Sharma after landing at Andal Airport near Asansol.

 

Mr Chetan Sharma, who has played over 23 test matches and 66 one day international matches for India has handed over the Prizes to the Winners of the first edition of the  Shristinagar Premier League (SPL) at Shritinagar in Asansol.

The first edition of Shristinagar Premier league (SPL), a cricket league themed on the lines of Indian Premier League, hosted by Bengal Shristi, concluded on a pulsating note.

After a week of hard fought and nail biting  league matches, the finals were played between Avengers and  RKM Warriors with RKM Warriors emerging as the winner.

Mr Chetan Sharma Chetan Sharma retired Indian cricket player who played Tests and ODIs as a fast bowler for Indian cricket team with other dignitaries from Bengal Shristi were present for the prize distribution ceremony.

Mr. Chetan Sharma was the first man to take a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup, achieving this feat in the 1987 Cricket World Cup against New Zealand.

 

The league consisted of 8 teams who played the six day long tournament in a round robin league format at the Sky Turf of Odyssey Club in Shristinagar. The matches were of 8 overs featuring 8 players in each team with 4 extra players. The top 4 from the league battled out in the thrilling semi-finals.

 

Mr Binay Chaudhary, Head of Operations, Malls & Townships, Shristinagar said “This was the first time that we have taken such initiative of organizing a sporting extravaganza at Shristinagar. All the participants and their families had a gala time. SPL created a buzz in and around Asansol as spectators all around the city were there to cheer for the teams participating. We screened the Semi Final & the Finals LIVE in a Big Screen which was put up in lawn of Odyssey Club. We look forward for more of such fun engagements for our residents”.

The participating teams in the tournament were Asansol Titans, Predators, RKM Warriors, Annapurna Warriors, My School Ninjas, Rebel, Mavericks and Avengers.
