No stone will be left unturned to make Chanderi a major tourism centre in the state – Jyotiraditya Scindia

“Indian culture resides in every corner and stone of the ancient city of Chanderi” says Madhya Pradesh Chief minister Dr. Yadav while inaugurating the country’s first “Craft Handloom Tourism Village”-Pranpur.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Indian culture is present in every corner and stone of the ancient city of Chanderi. No stone will be left unturned in the development of Chanderi. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav addressed the inauguration program of the country’s first “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” in Chanderi, Ashoknagar on 6 th March 2024.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav performed Bhoomi Pujan and inaugurated 42 development works worth more than Rs 301 crore in Chanderi, Mungawali and Ashoknagar. This includes Bhoomi Pujan of 8 development works worth more than Rs 228 crore and inauguration of 34 development and public welfare works worth more than Rs 72 crore. Various public welfare works including roads, bridges, laboratory rooms in schools, public health units will be constructed with this amount.
Union Minister, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Steel, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that from Mahakal Ujjain to Chanderi, there has been a history and pride of culture and rich heritage. While Tansen’s city is Gwalior, Baiju Bawra’s city is Chanderi. No stone will be left unturned to make Chanderi a Tourism Center in Madhya Pradesh.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture, Tourism and Religious Trusts and Endowments, Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi said that the history of Chanderi is a history of bravery and pride. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Yadav for giving gifts of development to Chanderi.
Additional Managing Director Tourism Board Mr. Vivek Shrotriya highlighted the Craft Handloom Tourism Village project in his welcome address.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav started the program by traditionally performing Kanya Puja and lighting of the lamp.
An exhibition on handloom products of the state was organized by the Weavers Service Center, Indore of the Ministry of Government of India at the venue of the program. In the exhibition, the state's traditional Chanderi saree, Maheshwari saree, woven cotton stole, Sarangpur Chadar, Chakdhariya Baiga saree including natural dyed and hand block printed sarees were displayed.
Union Minister Shri Scindia visited “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” at Shuttle Chowk in Pranpur village. He discussed with the families traditionally doing handloom work in Pranpur village. After getting information about the specialties of handloom, sarees and suit clothes, he congratulated the families for preserving the art for generations and wished them a bright future.
Under the leadership of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, efforts are being made to preserve and promote the traditional handlooms and handicrafts of the country. Like Chanderi, efforts will be made to preserve the art and culture that has been going on for generations in other places in the state.
Key Highlights of the First Craft Handloom Tourism Village project of India:
It is noteworthy that the government M.P under the initiative of Tourism Board, Ministry of Textiles has developed “Craft Handloom Tourism Village” in Pranpur, Chanderi at a cost of Rs 7 crore 45 lakh. Its main objective is to provide a market for the sale of products while preserving the art of local weavers and craftsmen.
The basic objective of the Craft Handloom Tourism Village project is to develop an attractive center to provide a market to the handloom and handicraft weavers and artisans living in and around the tourist destination, so that the tourists coming here can become aware of the local crafts and weaving arts. And can buy the products made by the villagers as a souvenir.
With the aim of making Madhya Pradesh self-reliant, the state government is continuously making efforts to increase employment opportunities. The priority is to provide a market while preserving the art of weavers and craftsmen. It not only keeps our traditional arts alive but also contributes to the rural economy.
Pranpur – A village of weavers and craftsmen:
Pranpur village is about 4 km in the foothills of Chanderi. There is a picturesque place in the distance. The specialty of this village is that most of the families in the village (in 243 houses) are associated with weaving art, whose houses and working handlooms are still being used for two- three generations. Apart from this, there are more than fifty craftsmen in the village who are involved in crafts of bamboo, wood, stone, jewellery and clay. This is a centre of special attraction for tourists.
Under the project, the old unpaved access road of the village has been repaired using local stones. Inside the village, tourists go in their vehicles and get down at a designated place and tour the attractive village. A parking lot has also been developed here. A cafeteria and ‘Handloom Café’, has been constructed especially for the tourists. Public facilities and adequate parking arrangements have also been made available here for men, women and disabled people.
Besides, a garden has been developed for the facilities and entertainment of tourists. In which an amphitheater has been constructed. Here cultural groups of the local community will present cultural programs for the tourists from time to time.
