Over two hundred plus participants from twenty Indian states and three foreign countries took part in the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) in Kolkata, at Biswa Bangla Maidan today. The event is supported by the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI).
The three day TTF Kolkata is India’s oldest travel mart, established in 1989.
This year for the first time, Maldives has joined as the partner country and there has been a repeat participation of Thailand as the focus country in the TTF Kolkata.
In the domestic tourism sector the partner states are Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttarakhand. The focus state is Tamil Nadu.
The Featured states include Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Punjab and Tripura.
There is private sector participation from all over India. For the first time – TTF Responsible and Rural Tourism Lab by Act was discussed.
POST – PANDEMIC TRAVEL & TOURISM SCENARIO IN INDIA
After an extremely tough pandemic phase in the last two years, domestic leisure travel is the driving force behind the road to recovery.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv Agarwal, chairman of the company organising the Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF) in Kolkata said that domestic air passenger traffic has neared pre pandemic levels with various airlines having ferried 1.14 crore air travellers in May 2022 compared with 1.22 crore in May 2019, roughly five folds increase in volume growth from the last year.
“ International passenger traffic has also seen a growth since international flights resumed fully on March 27 after a two year ban, and reached 72% of the pre covid level in May 2022,” said Sanjiv Agarwal.
HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY : OUTLOOK
Hotel occupancies had fallen below 50 percent in January 2022 owing to the Omicron impact, he said. It hit 65 percent occupancy level , surpassing pre pandemic levels in occupancy and average daily rate (ADR) for three consecutive days during the second week of April.
Financial year 2022-2023 is likely to be the year of reckoning for the Indian travel and tourism sectors, despite massive triple shocks of the pandemic, conflict in Europe, and inflation- induced economic meltdown, Sanjiv Agarwal added.
FY 2022-2023 IS THE YEAR of RECKONING FOR TRAVEL AND TOURISM
TTF is the predecessor of India’s largest travel trade show network in 9 Indian cities annually, branded as TTF, OTM and BLTM.
This edition staging the grand revival of travel is especially important, because it will catalyse the huge rebound of domestic and international travel markets.
Secretary of TAFI, Bilolaksha Das and chairman (east) of TAFI , Anil Punjabi were also present during the inaugural ceremony. Bilolaksha Das also participated in a panel discussion.
“ Thai consulate, officials of Maldives tourism board, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), including Vachirachai Sirisumpan, Director of TAT, New Delhi and other top officials of Travel Agents Federation of India were present,”said Anil Punjabi.
A short two minute introductory video about the travel show network was also shown. The three day TFF Kolkata will end on 3 July. TAFI has also given a stall.
