In the first seven days of this month over one lakhs national flags have been sold by the West Bengal Postal Circle. The tricolour flags are being sold both in online (epostoffice) and in offline mode (counter sales) from the 9087 post offices under it located all over West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is a campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage the citizen to hoist the National Flag of India from 13 th to 15 th August and to instill a deep feeling of patriotism in the hearts of the people on completion of 75 years of Independence.
The National Flag has been made available across the extensive network of Post Office counters for easy availability and prompt doorstep delivery for on- line orders by the India Posts all over the country.
The campaign also brings within WB Postal Circle’s fold of 9087 numbers of post offices across West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The sale price of each flag is Rs.25.
Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, J.Charukesi, Chief Post Master General (CPMG) of West Bengal Postal Circle has informed that the sales of national flags have started from 1 August and will continue till 14 August.
“ I would like to request everyone to actively take part in ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, celebrating 75 years of India’s independence , and to hoist the national flag from 13 to 15 August this year and make the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a grand success. The Indian National Flag is available for sale at all the Post Office counters. Orders can also be placed online @ www.epostoffice.go.in,” J.Charukesi said..
The enthusiasm to buy the national flag is very high and already till today over 100,000 national flags have been sold. However, the online sale is less compared to the offline mode. The local post offices after getting the online orders are delivering the flags to the customer’s houses free of cost.
The West Bengal Postal Circle has ordered 1,65,000 national flags and already in a number of post offices there is no stock. Fresh indent has been given as still about seven days are remaining for the sales.
Top officials of India Posts feel that from 11, 12 and 13 August the flag sales will peak.
Cotton and Silk flags are available and the size is thirty inches by 20 inches. There is no GST on the Indian Flag sales.
It is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hoist national flags in all the houses in the country to mark the 75 th year of India’s independence and the ambitious target is that the tri colour will be hoisted in at least 65 percent of about 26 crores households in the country.
The union home ministry recently modified the flag code permitting every citizen of the country to display the flag throughout the day and night. Earlier the tri colour was allowed to be hoisted from sunrise to sunset.
India Posts have come forward to sell national flags under the ‘Haar Ghar Tiranga’ campaign from its 1.60 lakhs post offices situated in all parts of the country from 1 August.
At least one counter of all the post offices in the country will remain open for the sale of the national flags from 1 August till 15 August.
The centre has also tied up with various e-commerce websites and self help groups for procuring and sales of national flags.
Earlier, the sale of India’s holy Gangajal from the outlets of India Posts have also been a huge success.
