The Goa Cashew Fest 2026, organised by the Goa Forest Development Corporation (GFDC), Government of Goa, concluded on a resounding high after three spectacular days of celebration, dialogue, and cultural vibrancy at the D.B. Recognised as an official State Festival, the event brought together farmers, policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, and visitors from across the country, celebrating the cashew — a fruit deeply woven into Goa’s cultural and economic identity.
The festival opened with a grand inauguration graced by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and other distinguished dignitaries, marked by the ceremonial watering of a bonsai cashew tree — a symbolic gesture honouring the legacy and sustainability of Goa’s cashew ecosystem. The evening also saw the unveiling of the festival mascot and the launch of key initiatives that underscored the festival’s vision of blending tradition with progress.

Across all three days, the festival’s morning technical sessions provided a robust platform for knowledge exchange and industry dialogue, addressing key themes such as “Celebration of Provenance – Towards Global Benchmarks for GI Feni and Cashew” and “Future-Proofing Cashew Cultivation in Changing Climate Conditions.” On the final day, the session titled “Beyond the Nut – Can Cashew Apple Drive a New Economy?” was graced by Shri Deepak Kesarkar, MLA, Sawantwadi, who shared valuable insights on strengthening the cashew sector. He highlighted his commitment to promoting the cashew ecosystem and spoke about initiatives such as engaging with international best practices, including efforts to study advanced cashew cultivation and processing techniques. The second session also touched upon the need for stricter regulations and responsible practices within the rent-a-car ecosystem, advocating for safer mobility solutions and better enforcement—aligning closely with the broader message of responsible tourism and initiatives such as #DriveSafeGoa.

A major highlight of the festival was the launch of Sylvan Value-Added Products, showcasing innovative offerings such as cashew apple pickle, jam, salsa, cashew paste (for curries and methai making), coffee-infused honey, and more. This initiative marks a significant step towards value addition, promoting local entrepreneurship and enhancing farmer incomes while demonstrating the versatility of Goa’s cashew produce.
The festival also spotlighted the recently launched coffee table book, ‘Forest Recipes of Goa’ by photojournalist Ms. Assavri Kulkarni, which has been receiving widespread appreciation for celebrating Goa’s rich culinary heritage rooted in forest and local ingredients. The book adds a unique cultural dimension to the festival, highlighting traditional knowledge and sustainable food practices.
Further reinforcing its commitment to social impact, the festival witnessed the launch of the Mardaani Initiative, conceptualised by Dr. Deviya Rane. The initiative proposes the integration of self-defence training for young girls and women into school and college curriculum — a bold step towards empowering women, building confidence, and fostering a sense of security.
The presence of the #DriveSafeGoa initiative across all three days ensured that celebrations were paired with responsibility. With Goa Miles and Pink Rickshaw services available at the venue for women and the elderly, visitors were encouraged to opt for safe and reliable transportation, reinforcing the importance of responsible tourism and overall visitor safety.
At the heart of the festival were over 50 stalls, including those run by Self Help Groups, showcasing an impressive range of cashew-based products, traditional preparations, and innovative offerings. Visitors were also treated to live demonstrations of traditional drum roasting of cashew, along with the vibrant and interactive experience of cashew apple stomping, offering an immersive glimpse into Goa’s age-old practices.
As the sun set each evening, the festival transformed into a high-energy celebration of music and culture. The Sundowner Stage experiences created the perfect build-up, setting a vibrant and immersive mood as crowds gathered in anticipation. The spotlight then shifted to electrifying performances by popular Goan bands including UZO, A26, Injunktion, and Band Ambassadors, whose powerful sets brought the spirit of Goa alive on stage. The nights reached a spectacular crescendo with headline performances by acclaimed national artists Jonita Gandhi, Benny Dayal, and Sachin-Jigar, who delivered show-stopping acts that had audiences singing along, dancing in unison, and soaking in an atmosphere charged with energy and celebration. With massive turnouts and roaring crowds each evening, the festival emerged as one of Goa’s most exciting live entertainment experiences, leaving audiences spellbound and wanting more.
Over the course of three days, the Goa Cashew Fest 2026 successfully brought together the many dimensions of the cashew ecosystem — agriculture, culture, cuisine, innovation, and community. More than just a festival, it stood as a powerful platform for dialogue, empowerment, and celebration, reaffirming Goa’s position as a leader in the cashew industry and a destination that honours its roots while embracing the future.
