A Boat Carrying 32 Indian Tourists had capsized about 400 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai, an island in the An Thoi archipelago off the coast of Phu Quoc, Vietnam,at least 15 dead, Indian Embassy in Hanoi is monitoring the situation. Telengana Government has also set up a control room.
The vessel, operated by the Ocean Pearl Island Company, capsized while traveling from Hon May Rut Islet to An Thoi Port in Vietnam’s An Thoi Archipelago off Phu Quoc. Local authorities believe a sudden mechanical failure, combined with strong winds and rough seas, caused the boat to overturn and throw everyone onboard into the water
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam said it is closely monitoring the situation. It has also issued helpline numbers to ensure that the families of the Indian tourists on board receive all information related to the rescue operation.
A passenger boat carrying mostly Indian tourists capsized near an island in Vietnam. Rescue teams launched a search operation for the missing tourists, and divers were deployed. According to the latest reports, at least 15 people have died in the incident, most of them Indian tourists. A Vietnamese minister said that 21 people had been rescued alive, although the condition of several of them remains critical. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the tragedy.
The incident occurred near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. According to information provided by local authorities, the boat was travelling from the Hon May route to An Thoi Port with tourists on board. The accident occurred just a few minutes after the boat departed at around 1:00 p.m. (local time). As the boat overturned, all the passengers were thrown into the sea. Some of them attempted to save themselves by swimming.
As soon as the incident came to light, local residents began rescue operations. Officials of the Indian Embassy in Vietnam are in contact with the local authorities. There were 32 Indian tourists and four crew members on board the boat.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam stated that it is monitoring the situation. It has also issued helpline numbers so that the families of the Indian tourists on board can receive all information related to the rescue operation. Exactly one year ago, in July 2025, a tourist boat capsized in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, after being caught in a sudden storm. There were 48 passengers, including 20 children, on board. Thirty-eight people lost their lives in that accident.
