APPOINTMENT: DECORATED OFFICER L. KAIMINLUN HAOKIP HAS BEEN RECENTLY APPOINTED AS DIG & CASO OF KOLKATA AIRPORT

In a major move to fortify aviation security, highly decorated paramilitary officer L. Kaiminlun Haokip has been recently appointed by the union home ministry as the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Chief Airport Security Officer (CASO) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport.

This appointment marks Haokip’s high-profile return to the Kolkata airport, where he previously served as Senior Commandant. His extensive experience is expected to significantly boost the security infrastructure of the region’s primary aviation hub.

He made history as the first officer from the Kuki community to attain the rank of DIG in the CISF. During his distinguished career, he was also awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata is the largest gateway to Eastern India and handles several thousands  of domestic and international passengers daily  and maintaining the security of air traffic is a very challenging task.

Mr. L.Kaiminlun Haokip is a prominent face in the law and order and airport security of the country. He has a rare track record of working in a total of 5 important and major airports in India. He has previously successfully worked in various important positions at airports in Amritsar, Agartala, Goa, Guwahati and Kolkata itself.

He is also  known in the CISF community as a very brave and dutiful officer. In recognition of his exemplary work, he was awarded the ‘Police Medal for Meritorious Service’ in 2024.

He has made India shine not only within the country’s borders but also internationally. He was awarded the prestigious ‘UN Peace Keeping Medal’ for his outstanding contribution while serving in the United Nations Special Peacekeeping Mission ‘MINUSTAH’ (UN Peace Keeping Mission) in Haiti in the Caribbean.

Facing the modern security challenges of the present 2026, the arrival of an internationally experienced and medal-winning officer like Shri L. K. Haokip as the CASO of Kolkata Airport is very comforting. Everyone believes that his new innings will make Dumdum Airport more secure in ensuring the safety of passengers, preventing smuggling and efficiently dealing with any kind of emergency.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata handles an average daily passenger footfall of 60,000 to 70,000 passengers across roughly 300 to 400 daily flights. During peak travel periods, such as the Durga Puja festival season, the daily footfall surges significantly to over 3 lakh (300,000) passengers.

The airport is one of the busiest in India, processing approximately 2.2 crore (22 million) passengers annually.

Prior to joining as the DIG and CASO of ASG of CISF of NSCBI Airport in Kolkata, Mr. L.Kaiminlun Haokip was posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)  unit of Iisco Steel Plant (ISP) of Sail in Burnpur.

Mr. Dilip Kumar has replaced him as the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and head of CISF unit of Iisco Steel Plant (ISP) of Sail in Burnpur. He has been promoted and was posted as Senior Commandant of CISF in charge of Nagpur Airport in Maharasthra. Incidentally, ISP Burnpur is also undergoing an upcoming  massive expansion  of Rs.35,000 crores, during which more than 10,000 numbers  of construction workers are likely to get job.
