In line with World Environment Day, Brightsun Travel India recently hosted an insightful awareness session featuring Dr. Ranjana Ray Chaudhuri, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Regional Water Studies and Department of Natural and Applied Sciences at TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi.
Held as part of Brightsun’s effort to encourage environmental awareness within the organisation, the session brought focus to some of Urban India’s most urgent sustainability challenges, including water scarcity, treated wastewater reuse, circular economy, urban resilience, nature-based solutions, and sustainable resource management. With over 25 years of experience across civil engineering, academics, training, and urban water management, Dr. Chaudhuri shared valuable perspectives on how institutions, businesses, and communities can contribute to more responsible water practices.

With a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University), and a PhD on Extreme Events and Climate Change from TERI SAS, Dr. Chaudhuri has worked extensively on Integrated Water Resource Management across urban, peri-urban, and rural areas in India. She is also recognised as one of the 10 Water Sheroes by the Government of India, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, and is part of the Bureau of Indian Standards committee on Environmental Impact Assessment.
Speaking during the session, Dr. Chaudhuri highlighted the importance of practical water efficiency, decentralised water systems, water reuse, and resilient planning in the face of climate change and rapid urbanisation. Her insights encouraged a deeper understanding of how World Environment Day must move beyond symbolic observance and inspire everyday organisational responsibility through practical, measurable action.
Commenting on the initiative, Sandeep Arora, Director – Brightsun Travel India, said, “World Environment Day is an important reminder that sustainability is not limited to policy discussions; it must also become part of how organisations think, learn, and operate. At Brightsun, we believe businesses have a larger responsibility to encourage conversations that go beyond their immediate industry. It was a privilege to host Dr. Ranjana Ray Chaudhuri and learn from her deep expertise on urban water sustainability, resilience, and practical solutions for India’s growing cities.”
The initiative reflects Brightsun’s continued commitment to meaningful engagement, awareness-building, and responsible business practices. Organised to mark World Environment Day, the session reinforces the company’s belief that informed conversations around sustainability can help internal teams, businesses, and communities support a more resilient future.
