AVIATION : DIRECT FLIGHT TO BANGKOK TO START FROM GAYA, MAJOR DECISION BY BIHAR GOVERNMENT LED BY CM SAMRAT CHOUDHARY, TO FURTHER BOOST BUDDHIST TOURISM

The new Bihar government under the leadership of CM Samrat Choudhary has approved an international flight connectivity between Gaya and Bangkok. This will further boost Buddhist Tourism in the state.

. Direct air connectivity between Bihar’s Gaya International Airport and Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, has been approved.

Gaya Airport: An important plan connecting Bihar with foreign countries has been approved.  This approval was given in the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. A total of 13 proposals were approved in the Cabinet meeting. These also include approval for construction of a reservoir for the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) located at Dobhi in Gaya district.

Flight from Gaya to Bangkok: Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Department Arvind Kumar Choudhary said that tenders had been invited to provide non-stop air services to new international destinations. In this, a single tender was received from M/s Inter Global Aviation Limited (IndiGo Airlines) for the Gaya-Bangkok route. The Cabinet selected it on a nomination basis and approved administrative and expenditure sanction of ₹5 lakh per flight as viability gap funding and a maximum of ₹10.40 crore for up to one year.

Dr. Kaulesh Kumar, Secretary General of Association of Buddhist Tour Operators (ABTO) has welcomed this decision of the Bihar government to introduce new international flights from regional airports in the state and said that it will further boost the Buddhist Tourism in the state.

Buddhist tourism around Gaya, Bihar, centres on Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Key sites include the UNESCO World Heritage Mahabodhi Temple, the descendant of the sacred Bodhi Tree, and the 80-foot Great Buddha Statue. The region forms a core part of Bihar’s prominent Buddhist Circuit.
