Eminent singer and politician Indranil Sen, who is also the minister of state of technical education, training and skill development and information and cultural affairs of West Bengal has been appointed as the new chairman of the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC).
He has replaced Miss. Nandini Chakraborty, principal secretary of state tourism department.
While Tollywood actress Sayantika Banerjee has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation.
The state tourism minister is Babul Supriyo, former playback singer of Bollywood movies and former union minister of state.
“ We have a great team now and it will be a great pleasure to work with Indranil Sen, whom I have known since long time. All of us will work together to give the shape of the dreams of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to uplift the travel and tourism sector of West Bengal,”added Mr. Babul Supriyo.
However, Miss Nandini Chakraborty will remain as the director of West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. The other directors are Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of Ambuja Neotia Group, Rudra Chatterjee, MD of Luxmi Tea,Karan Paul, Chairman, Apeejay Surendra Group, Mehul Mohanka, MD and Group CEO of Tega Industries and MD of WBTDC, R.Arjun and Financial Advisor, Tapas Kumar Haldar.
The West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Limited (WBTDCL) was incorporated on 29th April, 1974 under the Companies Act, 1956. The Corporation is owned by Government of West Bengal under the administrative control of Tourism Department and the entire share capital of the Company is contributed by the State Government.
WBTDCL is a nodal agency of Tourism Department which was incorporated with the objectives to develop and promote tourism in the state of West Bengal and for this purpose to take over, run and manage hotels, lodges, guest houses, motels, restaurants etc as well as to popularize tourist destinations in the state and conduct tour packages to those places.
WBTDCL is committed to provide its resources and expertise for both domestic and international tourists visiting West Bengal and to rise to their expectation in experiencing the art, culture, heritage and nature of the state.
The united forum of Travel Agents Association of Kolkata, comprising Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) and Skal International ( Kolkata) has welcomed the appointment of Mr. Indranil Sen and Miss. Sayantika Banerjee as the new chairman and vice chairman of WBTDC and said that they will provide all support to the state government to boast the tourism in the state.
