After Palace On Wheels, the Rajasthan Development Corporation Ltd (RTDC) has added another feather in its cap with the launching of the firstĀ ever helicopter joyride services for the tourists above the Thar desertsĀ after the virtual inauguration of the SAM Jaisalmer Helicopter ride by chief minister, Mr. Ashok Gehlot from Jaipur.
Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, officer in charge ( Kolkata) of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Ltd said that from today onwards the helicopter joy ride has startedĀ at the world famous destination- SAM Sand Dunes from SAM Dhani Resort.
ā The cost per passenger for the helicopter joyride will be Rs.7000 and it will be a big attraction of RTDC and Rajasthan Tourism after the Palace on Wheels,ā said Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo.
Along with the chief minister, the tourism minister of Rajasthan, Mr. Vishvendra Singh, Chairman of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation ,Mr.Ā Dharmendra Singh Rathore , Minister of state for tourism,Mr. Murari Lal Meena, minister of minority affairs and MLA of Pokhran, Mr. Shale Mohammad, MLA of Jaisalmer, Mr. Roopa Ram, RTDC managing director, Mr. Vijay Pal Singh, Executive director of RTDC, Mr. AshokeĀ Kumar Yogi, district collector, Smt. Tina Dabi was also present during theĀ launching occasion.
ā The tourists will not only enjoy the scenic beauty of the Thar desert from the top but also help to reduce the time to those tourists who wish to visit the three destinations- Jaipur, Udaipurm Jaisalmer by road. It will give a major boost to the local tourism and also change the socio economic scenario of the region,āadded Mr. Dharmendra Singh Rathore, chairman of RTDC.
āToday inaugurated a helicopter joy ride under the aegis of RTDC. RTDC attended the ceremony organized at Hotel Sam Dhani. Now tourists will enjoy helicopter joy rides in Sam of Jaisalmer. Everything possible is being done to provide better facilities to the tourism business and tourists,āsaid Mr.Ā Shale Moahammad.
First time in the history of RTDC, at 5 PM today the virtual inauguration of the helicopter joy rideĀ at Thar desert took place as the tourists will be able to enjoy the scenic beauty of the desert from the skies.
Sam or Sam sand dunes isĀ RajasthanāsĀ numero unoĀ desert dune region, which is visited by more than a million travellers every year. It is located about 45Ā kilometers away from Jaisalmer city.

The Thar Desert, also known as the Great Indian Desert, is an arid region in the north-western part of the s that covers an area of 200,000 km2 (77,000 sq mi) and forms a natural boundary between India and Pakistan. It is the world’s 20th-largest desert, and the world’s 9th-largest hot subtropical desert.
About 85% of the Thar Desert is in India, and about 15% is in Pakistan. The Thar Desert is about 4.56% of the total geographical area of India. More than 60% of the desert lies in the Indian state of Rajasthan; the portion in India also extends into Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana.
