Uttarakhand Metro Rail Corporation (UKMRC) managing Director , Jitendra Tyagi has announced that the detail project report (DPR) of country’s first Haridwar Darshan driverless Pod Taxi system has been prepared.
The estimated project cost will be Rs.1600 crores. Twenty pod taxis will operate and there will also be 20 stations. The Uttarakhand government has already granted the approval of this project which will seriously boost tourism in the state. All the pod taxis will be six seater. There will be total 514 pods.
It will also be environmental friendly and will run on batteries. The pod taxis will run on elevated routes and avoid the road congestion. The structures will be sleek in between the roads.
There will be two system – one in which the entire pod taxi can be booked and the other which can be shared with other passengers.
The DPR will be send for approval and then finally tenders will be floated to set up the Personalised rapd transit system, pod taxi in Private Public partnership (PPP) mode.
It will cover the key cities of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun.
The total length of the pod taxi route will be 20.74 kilometeres.
From Bharat Mata temple at the fag end of jwalapur in Haridwar and Prajapati Ytemple in South to Laksar Road total four corridors will be set up.
The main stations in this route will be Sitapur, Jwalapur, Arya Nagar, Ram Nagar, Harki Pawdi, Kharkhadi, Matichur, Santikunj, Bharat Mata Temple, ganeshpur Temple, Jagjitpur and Laksar.
The entire project estimated to be completed with one and half years.
Pod taxi-
POD taxis are used as a means of public transport in many of the developed countries like the UK, Abu Dhabi, Netherlands, etc. They are small automated cars that operate on a network of specially built guideways.
POD taxi is also referred as personal rapid transit (PRT), which is a public transport system developed for travelling swiftly in congested areas.
Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit (the oldest and most extensive), in Morgantown, West Virginia, has been in continuous operation since 1975.
