Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur celebrated its 9th Convocation on 21st November 2023 and awarded 800 Degrees & 20 Diploma/Certificate awards to the class of 2023 in the presence of faculty, staff, students, parents, and eminent personalities. This includes:
- 316qualified students in the B.Tech. (CSE), B.Tech. (ME), B.Tech. (EE), and B.Tech. (BB)degrees; Out of these,17 B.Tech. students have also met the requirements for the award of Minor/ Specialization certificates in Entrepreneurship, Management, Visual Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics
- 92 students qualified in the M.Sc.(CY), M.Sc.(DH), M.Sc.(MA) and M.Sc.(PH) degree
- 04students qualified in the M.Sc.-M.Tech. Dual Degree
- 283students qualified in the M.Tech.(BB), M.Tech.(CH), M.Tech.(AI), M.Tech.(CS), M.Tech.(CI-ENV), M.Tech.(CI-EN), M.Tech.(CPS), M.Tech.(SIoT), M.Tech.(DCS), M.Tech.(AMD), M.Tech.(TFE) and M.Tech.(MT) Degrees
- 77students qualified in the MBA and MBA-Technology Degrees
- 06students qualified in the Master’s in Medical Technology Programmes
- 22students qualified in the Ph.D. Degree.
In addition, 20 students qualified for getting the award for the PG Diploma/Certificate.

Dr. Vijay Chandru, INAE Distinguished Technologist, IISc, Co-Founder, Strand Life Sciences and Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice-Chancellor, BIT, Mesra were the esteemed guests. Shri. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Jodhpur presided over the ceremony and Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur delivered the Institute report, during the event.
Presenting the Convocation Report, Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, said, “It is my privilege to congratulate 820 candidates who will receive their degrees/diploma certificates under different graduate and postgraduate programmes. Also, it gives me immense pleasure to announce that today we shall be conferring Honoris Causa on Prof. Rohini Godbole, Prof. Paras N. Prasad, and Mr. Vinod Gupta, for their noteworthy contributions to the fields of science and technology, and for the cause of philanthropy.” Prof. Santanu Chaudhury shared the developments of the Institute in his Institute report.
Congratulating the graduating students, Shri. A. S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Jodhpur, said,” I congratulate all the graduands receiving their degrees today. Today is indeed a very memorable day for all of you as you all have achieved a landmark in your life. On this occasion, it would be appropriate if you remember the people behind your success, both your parents and all your teachers and professors who have guided you through this day.”
Further, Shri. A. S. Kiran Kumar said, “Today, you are also entering a stage in life which is very different from what you have been experiencing. But now you are entering the real world, the world which knows no real boundaries in all aspects. Today, the knowledge skills you have acquired from this great institute while it should enable you to deal with your life in this world and you also need to remember the rapid change that is taking place in the world today. The pace at which technology is changing, you cannot remain mute and you cannot pursue your activities without acquiring new skills and new knowledge as you move along”.
Adding more he stated, “Another important aspect, is what this nation has shown to the world while science and technology grows, science and technology move in a single-minded way towards new discoveries and new progress, the application of that is what makes a difference and it is a value system of this land, which makes a difference. It is this land, which has shown to the world that the knowledge you acquire is for the benefit of the entire humanity, not for yourself alone”.
Delivering the Chief Guest Address, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman, Space Commission and ISRO and Former Secretary, Dept. of Space, GoI, said, “First of all, let me congratulate all of you for the coveted academic distinction that you have earned. And wish every one of you a very bright and prosperous tomorrow. You have earned this degree with your hard work and your intrinsic learning skills.”
He further added, “Learning is a continuing process, and going forward, you everyday just ask yourself what did you learn today and convert that learning into actions. And remember to learn from failures as failures will lead you to bigger successes, while you be a good human being and good citizen”.
He also talked about how our Indian society had shown regard and respect to ISRO for its contribution to humanity and small steps to enhance humanity’s understanding about itself and the world around us which makes us feel that there is a purpose for our life in this world. He complimented Director Prof. Santanu Chaudhury for his leadership and his leading initiative and collaborative developments in the field of medical technologies with AIIMS, ICMR, and sister universities with the focus on (a) brain-related disorders, (b) tissue engineering, (c) theranostics, (d) radiogenomics, and (e) rehabilitation, is worthy and pioneering.
He said,” The world is moving from an era of Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) to Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and towards Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) and while ‘5G’ is happening, and ‘5G-advanced’ is on the anvil, the standards envisioned for ‘6G’ would facilitate seamless fusion of the digital, physical, and human world, aside energy sustainability, along with multi-sensory experience through human-machine interfaces in addition to smartphones”.
Divulging more he talked about Blockchain Technology and said, “ Today we are at the fourth edition of Blockchain (Blockchain 4.0), and is revolutionizing how we store, manage, and transact data, and it is only a matter of time before we see its influence in our daily lives and also how there has been a huge investment in quantum technologies, advances in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Gaming are converging towards virtual shared spaces collectively known as the Metaverse”.
During 2023, IIT Jodhpur has embarked upon a transformational journey with exponential growth in research, academics, infrastructure, and human resources.
