The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up! And this is exactly what Coimbatore-based Mouli’s Karaoke Club (MKC) has proven.
Mouli’s Karaoke Club is the dream child of K Chandramouli. With the intention of making the Club motto a reality (Everyone Deserves Music), Chandramouli aka Mouli started MKC in 2006 with “Melody 2006”, a competition-cum-awareness ad for the club. Entries came in and MKC had its members, after which there was no looking back.
With more than 50 active members today, and new ones hankering to join every day, MKC has hosted a variety of events over the years. Besides the usual 2-3 hour programmes, performances at weddings, birthday parties, Kovai Vizha (annual festival conducted on the occasion of Coimbatore Day), college Alumni meets, MKC has conducted 8 hour theme-based programmes at major malls in Coimbatore, and has even organised a 24-hour non-stop programme comprising a whopping 245 songs rendered by its members. Every event is a new experience and the club has striven to come up with events that have always garnered much appreciation from friends and the public too.
MKC’s most recent event, organised on June 2 at Fun Republic Mall, Coimbatore, saw more than 25 singers participating to commemorate the 82nd birthday of the Musical Maestro Ilaiyaraja with a programme “Raja Ragangal”. MKC members sang 82 numbers on the occasion, as a salute to the Isaignani.
The next upcoming event is a Golden Oldies event, with hit songs from the 1950s to 1980s.
Mouli trains the music enthusiasts, who are of all ages and from all walks of life, at informal sessions where the singers are enthused to give their best, take up new numbers and pushed to performance levels. The training cost is deliberately kept affordable and reasonable to enable more people to be a part of this musical journey and none of the shows are done on commercial basis. This has ensured that even after 18 years of active participation, MKC and its members hold the same cheer and continue their part in spreading the magic of music.
