After splashing the gushing waters of Iruvanjipuzha and Chalippuzha for three days, the 11th edition of the Malabar River Festival draws to a close on Sunday evening.
Minister for Tourism and Public Works, Mr. P A Mohamed Riyas has inaugurated the valedictory ceremony at Pullurampara and presented prizes to the winners.
Smt.Priyakna Gandhi MP, Mr. Linto Jospeh MLA and District Panchayat President Smt. Sheeja Sasi also attended the function.
Asia’s largest International Whitewater Kayaking championship, world-renowned paddlers had pitched to displayed their skill and prowess at the event, organized by Kerala Tourism in collaboration with the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS), District Tourism Promotion Council and Kozhikode District Panchayat, with technical support from the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association.
The festival, which got off to an exciting start at Pulikkayam in Kodanchery Panchayat, had elicited overwhelming response from top kayakers and paddlers from India and abroad, reinforcing Kerala’s standing as a major water sporting and adventure tourism hub.
Tourism Director Smt Sikha Surendran, District Collector Mr. Snehil Kumar Singh, KATPS CEO Mr. Binu Kuriakose, presidents of different village panchayats and local body representatives also attended the function. The function was followed by a performance of Marzi Music Band and other stage programmes.
