Ministry of Tourism, Bhubaneswar Office organized a Homestay/ B & B Workshop on recentlyin Konark, Odisha (UNESCO World Heritage Site) in which approximately 100 Stakeholders and Local Community Members participated. The main objective of workshop was to encourage and facilitate the commencement of Homestay/Bed & Breakfast (B&B) units in the Konark region.

The workshop in Konark served as a critical sensitization and capacity-building platform, successfully engaging around 100 local stakeholders. The event was strategically held in the vicinity of the UNESCO World Heritage Sun Temple to promote Homestay/ B & B unit. The primary focus was to educate participants on the benefits, procedures, and registration support available for starting a homestay to boost rural tourism and generate local employment.

The workshop was chaired by a distinguished panel of guests, whose addresses set the tone for quality standards and community commitment. Ms. Minati Sahoo, MD, Hotel Mahalaxmi Palace, Konark provided industry perspective on quality standards, professional hospitality, and the symbiotic relationship between organized hotels and homestays. Mr.Batakrushna Bahinipati, Prominent Local Figure Stressed the role of homestays in showcasing Konark’s unique culture, cuisine, and heritage to a global audience. Other prominent figure present in the workshop was Ms. Puja Nayak and Ms Suvana Samal. Mr. Jagannath Behera, Tourist Information Officer of MOT guided the audience on registration and classification process of the Homestay/B & B unit.

The Homestay/B&B Workshop successfully generated momentum, with so many individuals expressing interest in participating in the scheme. This initiative marks a significant step by the Ministry of Tourism, Bhubaneswar Office, to decentralize tourism benefits, strengthen local economies, and enhance the overall visitor experience in the culturally rich Konark region.
