  • Events held in Tier 2 cities in India for the very first time saw DCT Abu Dhabi delegates meet with key Indian travel industry professionals

KOLKATA, 13 APRIL 2023:

 Experience Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau (ADCEB) have successfully concluded a three-day India roadshow, with visits to Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata.

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) showcased a range of destination highlights alongside 23 key partners, including Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE; and Miral Destinations, the one-stop trade and promotional partner for Yas Island and Saadiyat Island.

More than 730 travel trade delegates attended the roadshow across the three cities, from 27-31 March, to learn about the unique and diverse experiences Abu Dhabi offers Indian travellers, while paving the way for long-term partnerships in the sector. With this India roadshow, The Department of Culture & Tourism – Abu Dhabi targeted Tier 2 cities in India for the first time and aims to conduct workshops this year in 11 more cities.

Talking to the www.thetravelandtourismtimes.com, Mr. Anil Punjabi, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) has informed that Abu Dhabi is a new and repeat destination.

“ Travel agents now have an alternate to offer by selling Abu Dhabi and Muscat like Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. There has been sufficient connectivity by air to Abu Dhabi and from the tourists can visit Oman by Road. Oman Air is also planning to enter Kolkata and Abu Dhabi, Muscat will be the new changing travel pattern in the middle east that too with pocket friendly fares,” added Mr. Anil Punjabi.

The department of Culture & Tourism of Abu Dhabi has already awarded Mr. Anil Punjabi a certificate of Abu Dhabi Specialist on 12 April 2023.

The India roadshow strengthened existing relationships and built new connections with travel trade partners, offering a programme of one-on-one meetings, and presentations– showcasing the emirate as a leading tourism destination for leisure, business, and incentive travel.

With an aim to make travel seamless to these cities Etihad, Air Arabia, and Indigo announced direct flights from India to Abu Dhabi. Etihad started a daily flight service to Kolkata, India from Abu Dhabi providing a total of seven weekly nonstop services to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU). Air Arabia also launched direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Kolkata three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Additionally, Indigo also announced its direct daily flights from Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi & Chennai to Abu Dhabi.

Throughout the roadshow, partners learned more about Abu Dhabi’s attractiveness as an all-year round destination, with an action-packed line of up events for the summer season including the iconic Indian International Film Academy Awards (IIFA) that will take place in Abu Dhabi this May,  unrivalled family fun at Paw Patrol Live in June, prepare to witness history as Guns N’ Roses are set to perform at Etihad Arena on June 1, and the UFC Abu Dhabi Showdown Week and UFC 294 in October.

The roadshow also highlighted the many family-friendly features of Abu Dhabi and the variety of experiences that are on offer for Indian holidaymakers, from the tranquility of Al Ain Oasis and the Al Dhafra desert to the thrills of Yas Island’s range of unique theme parks and attractions.
