Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International Airport has become the busiest airport in the world, according to the latest report on October 2022 by aviation analytics firm OAG.
Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi has been the tenth most busiest airport in the world. In October 2019, IGI Airport in New Delhi had been the fourteenth busiest airport in the world.
The list is prepared by OAG based on the domestic and international passenger footfall. Dubai Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport have been ranked second and third busiest in the world.
Dalla Fort Worth ranked fourth, Denver fifth, Heathrow Airport in London sixth, Chicago O’hare International Airport seventh, Istanbul eighth, Los Angeles Airport nineth.
However, Dubai is the busiest international airport, followed by Heathrow Airport London and Amsterdam Airport. No Indian airport has got any ranking in the top ten busiest international airports category.
Mumbai to Dubai and Delhi to Dubai are the top ten international routes.
Due to the outbreak of the covid -19 pandemic, after a two year hiatus the world is gradually restoring back to normalcy and both domestic and international passenger footfall have peaked up.
Despite high prices of flight tickets, most of the seats have been booked in this festive season in India. Students, leisure travels, MICE, wedding travels have increased.
Many new flights from international operators have started from a number of Indian cities this year. Besides, Indian operators are also increasing and introducing new international flights.
Akasa Air, a new domestic airline, has also started flight services this year to several Indian cities. It is expected that more flights will increase from next year onwards as travel and tourism peaks up further.
