Alipurduar District administration launches cycle rental system through Self Help Groups (SHG) with an onbjective to promote bycycle tourismĀ  for green and sustainable tourismĀ  in Buxa Tiger Reserve in North Bengal.

Mr. Surendra Kumar Meena, DM of Alipurduar has handed over five bycycles to a Self Help Group (SHG) at Rajabhatkhawa, the entry point of Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Mr. Parveen Keswan, Deputy Field Director ( West) of Buxa Tiger Reserve along with Surendra Kumar Meena pedalled the 7 kilometres stretch from Damanpur to Rajabhatkhawa.

Tourists who are keen to hire the bycycles on rent has to pay Rs.50 for the first two hours and then has to pay additionally Rs.20 per hour for staying extra.

ā€œ We will not allow the bycyclists to ply outside the stipulated routes. This effort will not only reduce the carbon footprintĀ  in the green patches but will also bost the local economy as the local SHG members will earn a living from the cycle rentals. In future more cycles will be provided,ā€said the DM of Alipurduar, Surendra Kumar Meena.

From tea gardens to restaurant inside a railway coach besides the wildlife are the added attractions in the bycycle tourism in Buxa Tiger Reserve.

The bycycle toursim has been named Dooars Darshan. The tourists have to produce proper identity cards to hire the bycycles on rental system.

Everyday about 2000 people visit the Buxa Tiger Reserve in North Bengal on an average.

In 1983, Buxa Tiger Reseve was set up as the 15th Tiger Reserve in India, it has birds and wild animals.
