The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a PSU under Ministry of Railways, is poised to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Tourism, Government of Mizoram. This strategic partnership aims to promote tourism in Mizoram and develop sustainable travel solutions across the region.
The MoU, expected to be formalized shortly, will mark a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity, promoting eco-tourism, and offering curated travel experiences in the North – Eastern state known for its lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage.
The Northeast Frontier Railway has constructed a railway network running 51.38 kms long through the Bairabi-Sairang line, which is expected to be commissioned in July 2025. The railway line will connect the state capital Aizawl with the rest of the country for the first time. This is expected to change not only the economic scenario but also boost tourism in the state.
In addition to promoting Mizoram’s distinctive offerings across India and abroad, IRCTC is also offering the people of Mizoram exciting international travel opportunities. These include leisure outbound tour packages to popular destinations such as Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Europe etc. — all at attractive and affordable prices.
Sources said that the MoU between Mizoram Tourism Department and IRCTC is likely to be signed within 1 st or second week of June.
