LEAD NEWS: NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS BEGIN AT HANUWANTIYA WITH GRAND INAUGURATION OF JAL MAHOTSAV ON THE ‘AQUA SERENADE’ THEME

In line with the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav to develop Hanuwantiya as a global tourism destination, the Tourism Department is making sustained efforts. As part of these initiatives, the grand inauguration of the Jal Mahotsav at the renowned water tourism destination Hanuwantiya took place on Tuesday, 30 December. Set amidst the serene and picturesque backdrop of the Narmada backwaters, the festival emerged as a unique confluence of tourism, culture, and celebration, welcoming the New Year in a vibrant manner.

Under the guidance of Minister of State (Independent Charge), Tourism, Culture, Religious Trusts and Endowments, Shri Dharmendra Bhav Singh Lodhi, and the able leadership of Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture, Home, and Religious Trusts & Endowments, and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, the formal inauguration of the New Year celebrations themed ‘Aqua Serenade in Hanuwantiya’ was conducted. On this occasion, Additional Collector of Khandwa district, Smt. Srishti Deshmukh, inaugurated the Jal Mahotsav by cutting the ribbon. The event filled the entire region with colours of joy, celebration, and festivity.

Hanuwantiya is endowed with exceptional natural richness. Spread across nearly 95 square kilometres, the vast reservoir, over 90 islands, tranquil surroundings, and rich biodiversity make it a distinctive destination. These attributes have positioned Hanuwantiya as an emerging hub of tourism, investment, and innovation.

17-Acre Tent City with 104 Swiss Cottages:

The Tent City developed under the Jal Mahotsav is spread over approximately 17 acres and features a total of 104 Swiss Cottage tents. These include Deluxe and Luxury category tents, offering tourists a safe, comfortable, and modern stay experience amidst nature.

Adventure Activities to Continue for 100 Days:

This year as well, the Jal Mahotsav, which commenced on 30 December, will host a continuous range of exciting activities over a period of 100 days. Tourists can enjoy a wide spectrum of land-, water-, and air-based activities, including speed boating, jet skiing, kayaking, water parasailing, banana rides, ziplining, ATV rides, cycling, trekking, and tethered hot air balloon rides.

In addition, yoga sessions, nature walks, wellness activities, and safe entertainment options for families have also been arranged, making the festival suitable for visitors of all age groups.

Platform for Folk Art, Culture, and Local Flavours:

The Jal Mahotsav provides a national platform for showcasing the folk art, folk music, tribal culture, handicrafts, and traditional cuisine of Madhya Pradesh. Active participation of local artisans, artists, self-help groups, and youth remained the soul of the festival, ensuring direct benefits to the local community.

Special Aqua Serenade Attractions for the New Year:

On the occasion of the New Year, special events were organised at Hanuwantiya under the ‘Aqua Serenade in Hanuwantiya’ theme. From 30 December onwards, cultural evenings, gala nights, light and sound shows, water-based performances, and a festive ambience attracted large numbers of tourists.

The safety of tourists has been accorded top priority at the Jal Mahotsav. Deployment of trained staff, water safety equipment, life jackets, medical facilities, fire safety arrangements, CCTV surveillance, and controlled entry systems have been ensured.
