The Deoghar-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express was virtually flagged off from Baidyanath Dham station by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today , marking a milestone in enhancing connectivity between two of India’s significant religious cities. Deoghar, home to the revered Baidyanath Dham, and Varanasi, one of the holiest cities, are now more closely linked through this new semi-high-speed train. This advancement is anticipated to greatly improve travel convenience for devotees and travelers, offering a faster and more comfortable journey between these sacred destinations. Today, Prime Minister also flagged off six other Vande Bharat trains which will operate on key routes viz Tatanagar-Patna, Bhagalpur-Dumka-Howrah, Brahmapur-Tatanagar, Howrah–Rourkela, Gaya-Howrah, and Rourkela-Howrah.
The inauguration ceremony at Baidyanath Dham(Deoghar) was attended by key dignitaries including V. Somanna, Minister of State for Railways , Nishikant Dubey, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and Narayan Das, e Member of Legislative Assembly. The importance of this new route in supporting religious tourism and regional development was emphasized during the event.
Somanna, Minister of State for Railways stated, “Today, the Deoghar-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express has been inaugurated by the Prime Minister, and many more trains will be introduced in the Deoghar/Baidyanath Dham area in the future. We have witnessed unprecedented developments in rail infrastructure in Jharkhand over the last 10 years including the expansion of the rail network, railway electrification, road safety works such as the construction of road over bridges and other infrastructural works, which have contributed to unprecedented growth in the region.”
Minister also revealed that the new route will provide substantial benefits to pilgrims and is expected to improve economic prospects in Deoghar. Enhanced access to significant religious sites through this train was highlighted as a key factor in fostering regional development.
These developments are fulfilling the dreams of the inhabitants of Baidyanath Dham/Deoghar area, as promised by the Prime Minister. An airport has been constructed in Deoghar, and the Vande Bharat Express train has been introduced today to link Baidyanath Dham directly with Varanasi, realizing this vision.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Nishikant Dubey said that, ” I would like to extend thanks to the Prime Minister for introducing two Vande Bharat Express trains passing through the Godda constituency area, namely the Deoghar-Varanasi Vande Bharat and Bhagalpur-Howrah Vande Bharat Express.”
Today’s school-going children will experience the journey of this Vande Bharat train and share their rich experiences with their grandparents and others at home, and remember this journey in the future, the MP added.
Further, he has also mentioned that the 150-year-old Giridih station will be put on the path of development, by linking it directly with the main line through the Madhupur bypass line, and more trains will be run from Giridih in future, connecting this station directly with Jasidih or trains may be run from Godda connecting Giridih enroute.
The event also featured a cultural program showcasing local talents. An award ceremony was also organised recognizing achievements in essay writing, recitation, and drawing excellence of school students. The awards were presented by the Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, in presence of MP Shri Nishikant Dubey and General Manager of Eastern Railway , Milind Deouskar who commended the participants and emphasized the importance of the new train service. Divisional Railway Manager of Asansol , Chetan Anand Singh also graced the inauguration ceremony.
The Deoghar-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express is expected to enhance travel experiences, support regional economic growth, and improve access to pilgrimage sites, marking a notable advancement in India’s rail infrastructure.
