Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and Development of North Eastern Region, G.Kishan Reddy has tweeted that so far the Indian government has evacuated about 500 Indian in three batches from war torn Sudan.
Evacuation of stranded Indians are in full swing at Sudan, where a civil war has been broken as the military and the paramilitary forces are fighting with each other.
“#OperationKaveri – to evacuate stranded Indians in Sudan in full swing, both through the air & sea route IAF C-130 aircraft & INS Sumedha in operation More than 500 Indians evacuated in 3 batches so far,” tweets G.Kishan Reddy.
Indian Navy’s INS Teg also joined OperationKaveri yesterday.
OF the 500 Indians evacuated from Sudan, 278 people departed from Port Sudan through INS Sumedha to Jeddah.
More than 420 people killed and nearly 4000 people injured in the fighting and heavy gun battle so far.
About 3000 Indians have been stranded at Sudan after closure of the Khartoum International Airport. Saudi Arabia and France rescue missions have evacuated a few Indians already, though the figures are still not available.
External affairs minister Dr, S.Jaishankar said that Indian aircrafts and shops will bring back all the stranded Indians from Sudan.
Already one Indian has been killed in Sudan, an ex-serviceman , Albert Augustine of Kerala who works as a security manager in a Sudanese company.
There is now an acute shortage of food,water, medicine, electricity, fuel and means of communications in Sudan now.
