In a landmark move set to transform long-distance travel across western and southern India, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, today flagged off not one, but two new express trains, establishing direct daily rail connectivity between Pune, Chennai and Jodhpur.

The inaugural run of the Hadapsar (Pune)-Jodhpur Express was ceremoniously flagged off from Pune Junction, along with Hon’ble Union Minister of State of Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, MP and MLA joining in a grand launch event. At the same time, the Railway Minister also launched the MGR Chennai Central–Jodhpur (Bhagat Ki Kothi) Express via video conferencing, signaling a powerful push for connectivity across three major states. Union Minister of State of Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, also joined the flag off through video conferencing.

At Jodhpur Railway Station, the celebrations continued with Union Minister of State of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Mayor Vanita Seth and several MPs and MLAs welcoming the new service that links the desert state directly with the Deccan.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vaishnaw lauded  Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating that in a span of just 10 years, he had done what had remained undone for the past 70 years. He added that in the years to come, the foundation of a developed India would become evident, as the vision of a new, prosperous India is steadily being realised.

These new services will not only save time for long-distance travellers but also boost trade, commerce and tourism between these culturally rich regions. Additionally, they will foster greater regional connectivity, promoting economic growth and enhancing cultural exchanges between Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.

Starting May 5 and 6, the Hadapsar-Jodhpur Express will operate daily, stopping at key stations including Ahmedabad, Surat, Abu Road and more. With a mix of AC and sleeper coaches, the train caters to every segment of passenger.
