Come 1 May and THAI Smile, a subsidiary of the THAI Airways has announced to start Kolkata to Bangkok daily flight services.
From 1 st January 2023 THAI Airways, a star alliance member group airlines has resumed flight operations from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata to Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok.
After a hiatus of two years, since the international flight operations had stopped the Bangkok – Kolkata flight services of THAI Airways was resumed.
Talking to www.thetravelandtourismtimes.com, Mr. Anil Punjabi, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) said that he fears that the THAI Smile flights will replace the wide bodies THAI Airways flights in the Bangkok – Kolkata route and if this happens then it will be a big blow to the passengers of the east.
“ From Kolkata the fare of THAI Airways is pretty high compared to New Delhi. The cost from Kolkata is almost Rs.26,000 which is equal to New Delhi, though the travelling time is about 4 hours from New Delhi compared to around 2 hours from Kolkata. Also there are other flights which are much cheaper. The Thai Smile fare will be Rs.20,000 and will give further challenge to the THAI Airways. Kolkata has been a home of THAI Airways for almost over 60 years,” added Mr. Anil Punjabi.
Mr. Samir Bhowmick, Sales Manager of THAI Smile in Kolkata said that flights will operate from 1 May between Kolkata and Bangkok but the schedule is yet not finalised and will be available within the next few days.
Last year the flights of THAI Smile resumed from Kolkata to Bangko k.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) had a productive meetings with Royal Thai Consulate-General Kolkata team, Airlines and Travel Trade Partners on 27 March at JW Marriott Hotel IN Kolkata in which reputed travel agents of Kolkata and representatives of the two airlines, THAI Airways and Thai Smile were also present.
