Tourism Minister PC Vishnunadh has inaugurated the Festival office at the Tourism Directorate here, for coordinating the Onam Tourism Week Celebrations starting in the state capital and district centres from August 24.
The Minister also unveiled this year’s Onam Festival logo on the occasion. Chief Minister Shri VD Satheesan, in his online Onam Message on the occasion, said Onam is a festival that celebrates the vibrant and colourful cultural traditions of Kerala. He also wished a happy festival season for all. Kerala Tourism Secretary Shri Biju K, Director Smt Anjana M and KTDC MD Shri Harshil R Meena were present at the function. Vice-Chairmen of various functional committees, Shri Palode Ravi, Shri Neyyattinkara Sanal, Shri Manacaud Suresh, Maryapuram Sreekumar, Shri Sharatchandra Prasad, Shri MA Vaheed, KS Gopakumar, Smt Lekshmi R and KTDC Chief Engineer Smt Lekha K were also present.
The Festival Office will coordinate and oversee various programmes of the Onam Tourism Week Celebrations planned across the state from August 24-30. All state departments are collaborating in the conduct of the Festival on a grand scale. They will also participate in the grand pageantry procession on August 30, the closing day of the festival, said Shri Vishnunadh.
Traffic arrangements to ensure smooth flow of vehicles and easy access for people to the festival venues, including the Kanakakunnu Palace grounds in the city, will be made by the Police Department, the Minister said. Over 2000 artists will perform in 36 venues in the state capital alone. Onam programmes and cultural events will be held in all districts across the state under the District Tourism Promotion Councils (DTPCs). Trade Fair, Food Fest, light decoration in the city, KTDC’s Payasam competition are some of the other highlights of the festival.
Few days ago , Minister for Local Self Governments Shri KM Shaji and Shri PC Vishnunadh flagged off Suchitwa Mission’s float displaying Haritha Onam message (Green Onam) which will go around all districts. The Onam Tourism Week celebrations will strictly follow the green protocol. Shri Jahamgeer S, Director (Operations), Suchitwa Mission, District Coordinator Shri Ameersha RS were also present for the flag off.
