Ahead of the upcoming winter travel season, airlines are set to scale up flight capacity and deploy larger aircraft on key routes from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, Airport Director Vikram Singh announced on Wednesday.

Speaking at a press conference today ,  Vikram Singh revealed that major carriers, including Emirates and Akasa Air, are expanding their operations. Akasa Air plans to boost its domestic network from the city, which includes introducing new flights connecting Kolkata to the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport.

“Emirates’ capacity will be increased, and Akasa Air will also operate more flights,”  Vikram Singh said, noting that the introduction of larger aircraft is a core part of the expansion strategy to handle the winter rush.

Emirates, which currently operates 11 weekly flights between Kolkata and Dubai International Airport, is gearing up to significantly enhance seat capacity on this crucial international sector. While the airline’s direct operations from Kolkata remain focused on Dubai, the expansion will provide travelers from the region smoother, high-capacity access to Emirates’ transit network of over 125 destinations spanning Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East.

Ahead of the peak winter travel season, passengers from eastern India are set to benefit from a significant boost in flight capacity and expanded network connectivity.

Akasa Air has announced plans to scale up its regional operations, introducing a new direct flight option linking Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport to the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport. The addition is expected to considerably ease travel between West Bengal and the financial hub’s newest aviation gateway.

Simultaneously, a 24-day passenger-centric initiative, the “Yatri Sewa Abhiyan 2026,” was officially launched at NSCBI Airport by Vikram Singh. Running from 17 September to 10 October 2026, the campaign is designed to elevate service quality, enhance accessibility, and streamline the overall passenger experience at the terminal during the high-traffic period.

Passenger-First Focus Drives New Airport Operations Campaign-

A comprehensive new campaign aimed at overhauling airport operations will place passenger satisfaction at the forefront, introducing a series of targeted upgrades across multiple service areas.

According to Singh, the initiative will systematically target core aspects of daily airport operations and passenger services. The drive focuses heavily on improving cleanliness, accessibility, passenger information, safety, and terminal amenities. Additionally, the campaign will introduce modernized digital services, streamlined grievance redressal systems, and robust sustainability practices to achieve long-term service excellence.

The strategy is designed to strengthen passenger-oriented services through a series of focused initiatives across different areas of airport operations. By addressing these critical touchpoints, the campaign aims to deliver a seamless, efficient, and world-class transit experience for travelers.
