AVIATION : KOLKATA – SIKKIM DAILY FLIGHT SERVICES RESTARTS FROM 15 SEPTEMBER

KOLKATA,  15 SEPTEMBER 2023:

Rajendra Grover, director of Pakyong Airport has announced that the airport has resumed flight operations from 2 September. Since 15 June, the flight operations have been suspended temporarily  due to inclement weather conditions.

The Delhi- Pakying flight services has resumed for five days a week ( except Monday and Friday).

While the Kolkata- Pakyong flight services will be daily.

This is a big relief to both the travel agents and the Sikkim tourism as the long festive season are coming ahead and passengers will be able to fly directly to Sikkim from Kolkata.

Spicejet is the only airline operating at Pakyong airport in Sikkim.

ABOUT:

Spread over 201 acres , the airport is located at Pakyong, about 31 km  South of Gangtok.  Located at  4,646 ft above the sea level , Pakyong Airport is one of the five highest airports in India. It is also the first greenfield airport constructed in the Northeastern India,  and also the 100th operational airport in India, and the  first and only operational airport in the state of Sikkim

Inaugurated on 24 September 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, commercial flight operations started  here 4 October 2018. After the inauguration people across the globe praised its engineering marvel and described it as one of the most scenic airports in the world.
