The Tourism Department of the Government of Bihar, in coordination with the Nalanda District Administration, has completed comprehensive preparations for the successful organisation of Rajgir Malmas Mela 2026, scheduled from May 17 to June 15, 2026.
Rajgir’s Malmas Mela is a deeply significant symbol of ancient religious tradition, faith, and cultural heritage. Every 12 years during Adhimas (Malmas), considered highly sacred in the Hindu calendar, lakhs of devotees, saints, pilgrims, and tourists from across India and abroad gather in Rajgir for spiritual observances.

Religious Significance:
According to mythological belief, during Malmas, gods and goddesses reside and roam in Rajgir, making it an exceptionally holy period. Devotees stay throughout the month, participating in ritual bathing, worship, and religious ceremonies at Rajgir’s sacred 22 kunds (holy ponds) and 52 streams.
Major Ritual Dates:
- May 17, 2026:Inauguration with flag hoisting, invocation, and worship rituals
- May 21, 2026:Panchami Snan
- May 27, 2026:First Shahi Snan
- May 31, 2026:Second Shahi Snan
- June 5, 2026:Panchami Snan
- June 11, 2026:Third Shahi Snan
- June 15, 2026:Amavasya Snan and immersion ceremony

Accommodation and Facilities:
Tourism Department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh stated that extensive arrangements have been made for pilgrims’ comfort, including:
- German hangar tents near Rajgir State Guest House with accommodation for 2,000 people
- Additional German hangar camps at:
- Rajgir Railway Station campus
- Near Brahmakund
- Near Mela Police Station
(Each with capacity for 1,000 people)
Available Amenities:
- Changing rooms
- Bathing areas
- Separate male and female toilets
- Drinking water
- Control rooms
- CCTV surveillance
- Health camps
- Affordable food counters (“Sasti Roti Counter”)
Additionally, authorities have arranged:
- 10 mini Rajwadi tents
- German traveler sheds at multiple locations
- Waterproof pandals for weather protection

Official Appeal:
Special Secretary and Director of Tourism Udayan Mishra appealed to devotees, tourists, and local residents to follow all administrative guidelines and actively cooperate in preserving Rajgir’s sacred, historical, and cultural dignity during the grand event.
