The health minister of Kerala, Veena George has directed the district administrations of kannur, Wayanad and Malappuram to remain alert after four people tested positive in Nipah Virus in Kozikode so far. Already two persons have died due to Nipah Virus.

Till now 14 people have been admitted at the isolation ward at Kozhikode Medical College and Hpspital. Of the 706 people identified in the contact list with the victims 76 people belonged to the high risk category.

Ambulances and volunters have been kept on standby at the seven panchayat areas in Kozhikode district.

Sample testing is also conducted at The Institute of Virology at Chudakkal.

The funeral of the deceased in Nipah virus held today.

Former health minister of Kerala, K.K.Shailaja claimed that the situation is not as scary as in 2018 and the present virus is the Bangladesh variant.

In 1999 Nipah Virus was first identified in pig farmers in Singapore and Malaysia. In Kerala it has been spread mostly by the fruit bats, according the previous study conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

In containment zones people are adviced not to drink raw date palm sap, due to likely spread of infections by the fruit eating bats. Schools, offices and private offices are shut in contianment zones as Kerala government fears that the virus will spread to entire Kerala as per  ICMR and WHO studies.

After Karnataka, neighbouring state of tamil nadu has also advised that people coming from Kerala have to undergo mandatory Nipah Virus test.

There is neither any medicine nor any vaccine to treat Nipah Virus, thus making it  even more scarry to people. Since the last five years Kerala is fighting against the repeated outbreaks of Nipah virus.
