Bihar Tourism Minister Shri Kedar Prasad Gupta requested the Union Tourism Minister to take steps for the early implementation of the proposal submitted to the Central Government for the comprehensive development of the state’s major pilgrimage and tourist destinations. Tourism Minister Shri Gupta met the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Government of India, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and requested early consideration of the proposal submitted for compliance with the Central Budget Announcement 2024-25.
Minister Shri Gupta said that under the Central Budget Announcement 2024-25, a final comprehensive destination strategy and development plan had been submitted for the development of major pilgrimage and tourist destinations in the state, covering Gaya Ji-Bodh Gaya and Nalanda–Rajgir. The objective of this plan is to increase the tourism potential of the concerned areas and ensure coordinated and sustainable development in accordance with the Central Budget Announcement.
In this regard, the Bihar Government has prepared a development plan of ₹1,080.00 crore for Gaya Ji-Bodh Gaya and ₹1,050.00 crore for Nalanda–Rajgir. A detailed basic infrastructure analysis report has also been submitted. Of the proposals for Gaya-Bodh Gaya, two schemes related to Heritage Haat, Bodh Gaya and International Food Court have been proposed under Swadesh Darshan. In addition, a project proposal of ₹1,216.02 lakh has already been submitted for the development of Simaria Ghat in Begusarai district under the Prasad Scheme, and its approval is awaited.
The Tourism Minister requested that the schemes submitted in compliance with the Central Budget Announcement 2024-25 be considered at the earliest, so that the development process of the state’s important pilgrimage, historical and tourist destinations can be given the required momentum. He requested that the Union Ministry of Tourism provide in-principle approval for the concerned schemes as soon as possible, so that the proposed development works in Gaya, Bodh Gaya, Nalanda and Rajgir can proceed without delay, timely implementation of the projects can be ensured, and the national objective of developing Gaya, Bodh Gaya and Nalanda-Rajgir as world-class tourism and cultural heritage destinations can receive the necessary momentum.
The planned development of these destinations will help give Bihar’s rich religious, historical and cultural heritage a new identity at the national and international levels. It will also expand facilities for pilgrims and tourists and promote tourism-based development in the state.
