KOLKATA | 10 JULY 2026

Mr. Rohan A. Khaunte,  Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa, today led the state’s delegation at TTF (Travel & Tourism Fair) Kolkata 2026, Eastern India’s largest travel trade show, with a direct pitch to the region’s travellers and trade: consider Goa not only as a beach holiday, but as a full-service destination for leisure breaks, meetings and conferences (MICE), and destination weddings.

The visit was built around a simple advantage — Kolkata and Goa are directly connected by IndiGo, with non-stop flights operating multiple times a week and a flying time of under three hours, making Goa one of the most accessible long-weekend and event destinations available to travellers from West Bengal and the wider eastern and north-eastern markets that TTF Kolkata draws upon.

Speaking at the Goa Tourism stall inaugurated on the sidelines of the fair, Minister Khaunte outlined the state’s “Goa Beyond Beaches” vision, which repositions the state around culture, hinterland experiences, spiritual circuits and regenerative tourism, alongside its traditional coastal strengths.

“Kolkata is barely a three-hour, non-stop flight from Goa — there is no reason West Bengal should only think of us for a beach holiday. We want couples planning a wedding, companies planning a conference, and families planning a getaway to see Goa as their first choice. We have the connectivity, we have the venues, and we have a state that is investing seriously in hospitality, heritage and experiences that go well beyond the coastline. My invitation to Kolkata and West Bengal today is simple — come and see the Goa Beyond Beaches,”added  Shri Rohan A. Khaunte,  Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa.

Beyond seamless connectivity, Goa and West Bengal share a unique cultural affinity rooted in their enduring love for football and rich culinary traditions. From the passion for the beautiful game to a shared appreciation for seafood and distinctive fish-based cuisine, these shared cultural affinities have strengthened the longstanding bond between the two regions, making Goa a preferred destination for generations of travellers from West Bengal.

A Growing Case for MICE :

Goa’s MICE credentials have strengthened considerably over the past year. India Energy Week 2026, held in the state, drew more than 75,000 delegates and 700 exhibitors from over 120 countries — a scale that underscores Goa’s ability to host large-format international conferences alongside its leisure offering. The state recorded 28.5 lakh visitor arrivals in the first quarter of 2026 alone, with MICE and destination weddings cited as key drivers of that growth.

Weddings: A High-Value Segment India’s destination wedding market is estimated at roughly ₹2.5 lakh crore and is growing at close to 35 per cent year-on-year, with Goa consistently ranked among the country’s premier wedding destinations alongside Udaipur, Jaipur and Kerala. Premium weddings in Goa for 100–150 guests typically range from ₹40 lakh to over ₹1 crore, reflecting the growing demand for the state’s world-class beach resorts, heritage venues and bespoke hospitality offerings. This presents a significant opportunity that the Department is actively showcasing to Kolkata’s wedding planners and hospitality trade.

Why West Bengal, Why Now :

TTF Kolkata typically draws over 7,000 trade visitors and more than 500 exhibitors from West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and across Eastern and North-Eastern India, making it a strategic platform to strengthen Goa’s presence in these high-potential source markets. With direct air connectivity already in place and growing demand for both leisure and event-led travel, the Department views Eastern India as one of its priority markets for the year ahead.

Goa Tourism used its stall at TTF Kolkata to engage directly with travel agents, tour operators, wedding planners and corporate event organisers from across Eastern India, showcasing the state’s diverse tourism offerings and strengthening partnerships to drive visitor growth from the region.

About the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa:

Goa recorded an all-time high of 1.08 crore tourist arrivals in 2025 and continues to build on this momentum in 2026. Guided by its “Goa Beyond Beaches” vision, the Department of Tourism is promoting the state as a year-round destination rooted in culture, heritage, hinterland experiences and sustainable tourism. With excellent air, rail and road connectivity, Goa is among India’s best-connected destinations, while its growing portfolio of world-class venues has established it as the country’s Creative Capital and a preferred destination for MICE, destination weddings and international events.
