Andal, a town in Durgapur subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman district of West Bengal. This area lies between two mighty rivers – the Damodar and the Ajay. The discovery of coal in the 18th century led to industrialisation of the area. Andal Junction is a Railway station on the Bardhaman–Asansol line. The Andal–Sainthia and Andal–Sitarampur branch lines both include colliery siding and start from Andal. Coal loaded at various colliery sidings are supplied in rakes to thermal power plants at Bakreshwar, Farakka and Sagardighi. It serves Andal and the surrounding mining-industrial areas.
In a ground-breaking initiative promising to reshape uplift local economies, redevelopment for this iconic Andal Railway Station of the Eastern Railway was kick-started under Amrit Bharat Scheme at a cost of Rs. 20 Crores. Crucially, environmental sustainability stands as a guiding principle in this endeavour. The reimagined station will incorporate energy- efficient lighting, waste management systems, and an overarching commitment to creating an eco-friendly environment that resonates with the modern ethos of responsible development.
This ambitious endeavour, carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marks a significant stride towards enhancing passenger amenities and fostering economic growth. Indian Railways’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge facilities finds vivid expression in this visionary project, poised to set new standards for railway station excellence.
The impending metamorphosis of Andal Railway Station transcends mere renovation; it’s an architectural revolution that seamlessly fuses contemporary design with the region’s historical significance. The station’s new facade will encapsulate a harmonious blend of form and function, a testament to modernity while honouring tradition. A new station building will be constructed on north side which will facilitate second entry to the station. The existing façade on the south side is proposed to get a complete makeover.

The inclusion of 12meter wide Foot Over Bridge, 3 lifts and 4 escalators underscores the project’s commitment to accessibility.
