The  Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 railway stations across the country under Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme through video conferencing on 6th August, 2023, for bringing all facilities under one roof at the station area which envisages multi-modal integration, improvement of building and integration of the station with the city/town, so that the Railway stations can serve the passengers with world class facilities and amenities.

As a part of this scheme, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 37 Railway stations in West Bengal of which 21 stations are in Eastern Railway and 16 stations are in North East Frontier Railway Jurisdiction which will bring about a major transformation in Railway stations of West Bengal. It will boost ‘Ease of Living’ and enhance comfort as well as convenience. Special care has also been taken to ensure the stations are in line with local culture, heritage, and architecture.

Krishnanagar City is proposed to be redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme and popular to the world for palaces, churches, clay toys, Raj Rajeshwary Jagatdhatri Puja and its rich history. Krishnanagar City Junction railway station is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system and operated by Eastern Railway. Krishnanagar is one of the oldest municipalities in Bengal. It is claimed to be named after Krishna Chandra Ray. The Rajbari built here during the reign of Zaminder Krishna Chandra Roy is a prominent tourist attraction, though the remnants of the past glory have been eroded and only a dilapidated structure of the exquisite places with carving on its inner walls remain today but still the city holds its own charm. As the scheme unfolds, the newly developed Krishnanagar City Station under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will reflect the harmonious blending of infrastructure and connectivity with the aspirations of locals of and adjoining areas.

Facilities planned under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at a cost of Rs. 29.62 Crores for Krishnanagar City station are as below: –
