RAILWAYS : ANDAL STATION IS IN COMPLETE TRANSFORMATION PROCESS FOR BETTER ACCESSIBILITY & AMENITIES FOR THE PASSENGERS , RS.97.54 CRORES TO BE INVESTED

KOLKATA, 12 JANUARY 2024:

Andal is an important station on Howrah – Asansol section. Situated in a highly industrial belt, the station is an important Junction station and also connecting Asansol on the one end and Siuri, the district headquarters of Birbhum on the other. To reduce congestion of Rail traffic at Andal, a bypass line is sanctioned at Andal linking Kajoragram station on Andal – Sainthia section with Bhaktarnagar station on Howrah – Asansol section. The commissioning of this Andal bypass line will help in facilitating seamless movement of both goods & passenger traffic in the area reducing the detention at Andal. Eastern Railway is constructing this bypass line having length of 1.6 km in UP direction and 2.54 km in the down direction at an estimated project cost of ₹97.54 crore. The construction work of this bypass line is likely to be completed in the financial year 2024-25.

Not only infrastructure development work like commissioning of Andal bypass line but also various other developmental works are going on at Andal station and its adjacent areas. The Andal station is also under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme with an aim to complete makeover of the station with modern amenities and improved facilities for a world class journey experience of the passengers.

In a ground-breaking initiative promising to reshape uplift local economies, redevelopment for this iconic Andal Railway Station of the Eastern Railway was kick-started under Amrit Bharat Scheme at a cost of Rs. 20 Crores. Crucially, environmental sustainability stands as a guiding principle in this endeavour. The reimagined station will incorporate energy- efficient lighting, waste management systems, and an overarching commitment to creating an eco-friendly environment that resonates with the modern ethos of responsible development.

This ambitious endeavour, carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marks a significant stride towards enhancing passenger amenities and fostering economic growth. Indian Railways’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge facilities finds vivid expression in this visionary project, poised to set new standards for railway station excellence.

The impending metamorphosis of Andal Railway Station transcends mere renovation; it’s an architectural revolution that seamlessly fuses contemporary design with the region’s historical significance. The station’s new facade will encapsulate a harmonious blend of form and function, a testament to modernity while honouring tradition. A new station building will be constructed on north side which will facilitate second entry to the station. The existing façade on the south side is proposed to get a complete makeover.

The massive re-development plan also envisages facelift project to the Andal station. There are many low lying areas at the approach of Andal which will be developed suitably for a congestion free & comfortable movement to & from Andal station.

Mr. Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway said that there is some problem at the underpass of the Andal as it is in a low lying area for which a people from Ukhra area are facing trouble in rainy season. The road approach is narrow and thereby road traffic jam is inevitable. Railway is trying hard to remove all the bottlenecks. The station redevelopment plan for Andal also includes the development of the approach to the station in the coming days for which work is in progress.
