The seventh edition of International flower show and agricultural fest, ‘Poopoli’ jointly organised by Kerala Agricultural University and Department of Agricultural Development and Farmer’s Welfare starts at Ambalavayal in Wayanad in Kerala from 1 January. This is the biggest international flower show of Kerala.
The forest minister of Kerala, A.K.Saseendran inauguarted the international flower show on Sunday. The Flower show will be held from1 January to 15 January 2023.
K.Ajith Kumar, associate director of Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) has informed that over 34,800 bulbs of Lilium have been imported for the show. “Six varieties of Hybrid Lilium and five varieties of Gerbera imported from The Netherlands are the major attractions of the flower show this year,”he added.
This international flower show spread over an area of 10 acres will showcase the potential of floriculture in Wayanad and scientists, farmers, traders and entrepreuners are participating.
There are about 350 stalls, including 100 stalls of government agencies have been set up. Over three lakhs people visited the international flower show in 2020 and this year the organisers expect that over five lakhs people will visit in the fifteen days show.
Vertical gardens and a variety of flowers are the highlights of this festival, and apart from that, the flower show is an avenue for adventurous sports and delicacies.
The Wayanad international flower show was started in 2014 with the aim of providing a platform for interaction between international experts, scientists, and entrepreneurs in the field of horticulture. The annual event makes the farmers aware of the immense potential of horticulture and encourages them to explore this field.
Poopoli is an excellent avenue for leisure and has a wide range of facilities for the visitors . The attractions include Sky Screamer, Well of Death, Zip Line, Water Absorbing Ball and a whole lot of joyful and adventurous sports along with some delicious food stalls. Entry is free for children below 6 years of age.
How to reach-
The adjoining railway station of Wayanad is Kozhikode, and the nearest airport is Calicut International Airport.
There are taxi services available to take tourists from the airport or railway station to Wayanad.
An extensive network of roads also connects Wayanad with cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, and Trivandrum. KSRTC buses are a convenient mode of transport.
