KOLKATA, 2 AUGUST 2023:

Dhatri, the female cheetah of Africa has been found lying dead in the enclosure of Kuno palpur National Park in Madhya Pradesh.

The only wildlife park in the country to boost cheetah roaming in the wild.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the first cheetah at Kuno on his birthday. That was the beginning of introduction into the wild of the world’s fastest land animal , 75 years after the last species were extinct due to poaching.

World’s first ever inter continental animal transfer has been a hype as Kuno had become the poster boy of India’s effort to restore back a mammal, seven and hald decades after its was extict.

Twenty cheetahs have been brought from two African countries in two phases. While a female cheetah have given birth to four cubs. Three of the cubs have already died. And out of the total twenty adults six cheetahs have also died.

The deaths have also sent alarmed bells ringing and the Supreme Court has also directed the centre to take efforts to relocate the fastest animals on earth in statrs like Rajasthan.

In Kuno, the cheetahs have bigger rivals like leopards and tigers. So far it seems that the cheetahs have failed to adapt at the indian climate and terrain. Sufficient foods have been released into the wild for hunting of the cheetahs.

The constant death of cheetahs ate matter of great concern both for the forest department, central government and also of the Madhya Pradesh state government.

The MP government has been boostsing about the presence of cheetah found only in the wild at Kuno in the country and attract the tourists.

Madhya Pradesh has also become the Tiger capoital of the country with over 760 royal bengal tigers.

The three and half year old Dhatri who was found today was born in Namibia. Still seven male and six female cheetahs are alive besides the cub.

The cheetahs have been fitted with radio colars at their necks which have led to septecemia deaths of two cheeaths already and the radio collars of six cheetahs have been removed recently. Three cheetahs – Oban, Elton and Freddie are having injury marks at their necks.

The heavy weight and sub standrad radio collars have been held responsible for cheetah deaths in the country by some experts.
