After commencing daily flights from Abu Dhabi to City of Joy- Kolkata yesterday , Etihad Airways,Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, will now add five more routes this year- Lisbon, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Malaga, Mykonos, said Mr. Amer N. Khan, Vice President, Middle East, Africa and The SubContinent of Etihad Airways.
“With all the seats booked in both the inbound and outbound flights of Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi to Kolkata on the inaugural day, we look forward for a very bright future and welcome tourists to Abu Dhabi. The Warner Brothers, Ferari World, Louvre Museum are already fully open and Sea World will open by the end of May. A number of Holywood and Bolyhood movies are shoot in the Yas Island and there are plethora of attractions for the toursists besides Abu Dhabi being a Shopping Paradise. To further increase our footprint we are participating in roadshows organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism Board throughout India. India has been a very critical country for us and our presence in India is about 19 years. This year we will celebrate 20 years,” added Mr. Amer N.Khan.
Mr. Salil Nath, General manager- Indian Subcontinent of Etihad Airways said that from yesterday also the number of daily flights have increased in Ahmedabad, Chennai and Cochin and from 24 April there will be three flights daily from Mumbai and New Delhi.
From 77 weekly flights the number will be increased to 118 weekly flights in the coming days. Etihad Airways is now operating from eight Indian Cities, he said.
“ The government of India has planned to develop 50 tourism destinations in the country and the commencing of new flights under the UDAN Scheme for Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities will provide feeder traffic and will further boost the inbound tourism and Etihad Airways eyes it as an opportunity to grow its business in its key resource country India. India has tremendous opportunities in the tyravel and tourism sector and the volume of overseas tourism in the nine months of 2022 was US$10 billion compared to foreign travel of US$7 billion in entire year before pandemic outbreak,”he added.
Etihad Airways will have connecting flights to North America, UK, Europe, Africa and Asia. Double daily operation will start to New York, USA this year.
Upon arrival in Kolkata, passengers were welcomed with a cake cutting ceremony and a celebration attended by Etihad and Kolkata Airport Executives. It takes about five hours to reach Abu Dhabi and four and half hours to reach Kolkata. It has also tied up with Air Arabia making ten weekly flights from Kolkata.

Re-establishing this vital air link with East India will support the growing demand from travelers in and around the region, offering them easy access to Abu Dhabi and connectivity to our global network alongside a world-class flying experience. We have been very impressed with our initial demand, which reaffirms our strategy to return to this key market.”
The flights will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft, offering Etihad’s award-winning service to guests in 8 seats in Business Class and 150 in Economy, convenient flight timings to the UAE’s capital city and seamless connections to destinations across the airline’s growing global network of 67 destinations.
Uber and Google Maps are also integrated in the app of Etihad Airways.
At the press conference and later meeting with the travel agents of Kolkata at J.W.Marriott Hotel in Kolkata today Mr. C.Pattabhi, Director of NSCBI Airport Kolkata, Smt. Kanika Kapoor, Account Manager of Etihad Airways, Smt. Samah Fatema, Kazmi, associate communications director of Lintas Live, Mr. Manav Soni, Chairman ( East) of Travel Agents Association of India, Mr. Amin Ashgar, President of Skal International Kolkata were also present.
