Shri Rishab Chaudhary, Director of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), took part at the 8th World Heritage Site Managers’ Forum (WHSMF 2026), which took place at BEXCO in Busan, South Korea, from July 16 to 23, 2026.

Jointly organized by the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, ICCROM, and IUCN, the prestigious annual gathering brought together site managers and heritage experts from across the globe.

This year’s forum centered on the theme: “Connection and Communication: Participatory Approaches to Managing World Heritage.” The event focused on: Promoting International Cooperation: Fostering shared strategies for preserving global heritage properties. Building Networks: Reinforcing and supporting an international network of site managers.

Unlocking Potential: Harnessing the full cultural, social, and economic potential of World Heritage properties. Enabling Governance: Strengthening government frameworks to support sustainable, community-inclusive heritage management.

As the director overseeing one of India’s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites, Mr. Chaudhary was invited to share insights on balancing conservation with community participation and sustainable tourism. Proudly representing the region’s rich cultural identity, he was seen attending the global forum in traditional multicultural attire of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Region.

Following the successful conclusion of the week-long forum, Shri Rishav Chaudhary will return to India on 25th July to implement key takeaways and further strengthen the participatory management model for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
