J.Charukesi, Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) of West Bengal Postal Circle has released a “Special Cover on 75 years of India’s independence” and another special cover on “50 years on the introduction of PIN code” on the occasion of the Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav celebrations on independence day at a function in Kolkata.
Philatelic ancillaries like a set of Picture Postcards on ‘Darjeeling’ and ‘Cultural Heritage of West Bengal and Sikkim’, were also brought out on 15 th August.
The Philatelic items will be available for sale at Philatelic Bureaus in this circle. India Posts organised an exhibition on Partition Horror Remembrance Day at all head post offices in WB Circle from 10 to 14 August, to bring to light the agony, suffering and pain of millions of people who were displaced during partition.
India Posts has taken a number of programme to celebrate the 75 years of independence like the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, sale of the national flag, exhibition , workshop etc.
In the last couple of weeks, India Posts has taken the initiative to deliver the Indian flag to millions of citizens of the country. Even online booking and doorstep delivery of the flags were also facilitated by the postal department.
Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, J . Charukesi, Chief Post Master General of West Bengal Postal Circle thanked the people of West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands for making the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign a success.
“ The West Bengal Postal Circle has sold from its 9087 total post offices four lakhs thirty seven thousand national flags from both offline ( counter sales) and online (epost office) mode,” J. Charukesi added.
India Posts have sold 1,34,23,383 national flags out of which 1,31,73,071 flags have been sold in offline mode through post office counter sales while 2,50,312 flags have been sold through online sales.
The Post Office did not charge any fees for delivery and each national flag cost Rs.25 .
The Bidon Street Post Office under North Kolkata Division has also organised a prabhat feri programme on independence day morning in which actor Nimai Ghosh was present along with senior superintendent, Ananda Chakraborty.
According to Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) about thirty crores national flags have been sold under the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign leading to a business of Rs.500 crores.
About one million people have benefited directly or indirectly from this programme. In the previous year’s the national flag sales and manufacturing trade used to be around Rs.150 crores, CAIT said.
Meanwhile, the union ministry of tourism, (North), IHM Srinagar, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling has jointly organised and displayed a 7500 square feet long Indian Tricolour at the bank of Dal Lake, Srinagar, celebrating the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
