KOLKATA, 9 FEBRUARY 2025:
The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata, together with the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, and Victoria Memorial Hall, have jointly organized a truly extraordinary event – the “Namaste Thailand Festival 2025: The Khon Performance Episode of HANUMAN The Mighty Warrior” – which will take place at the Victoria Memorial Hall, Western Terrace at the City of Joy on 10 February 2025.
This year’s event shines a spotlight on the majestic and timeless art of Khon, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. Khon is an extraordinary traditional Thai masked dance-drama that seamlessly blends movement, music and mythology. Performed by masterful artists from the Department of Fine Arts, Ministry of Culture of Thailand, it promises to transport you into the heart of Thailand’s rich and vibrant culture, as the performers weave stories with their graceful gestures, intricate costumes, and captivating storytelling.
Dr. C.V.Ananda Bose, Governor of West Bengal and Chairman, BOT, VMH, along with his wife, Smt. Lakhsmi Bose, Miss Siriporn Tantipanyathep, Consul General of Thailand in Kolkata, Mr. Samarendra Kumar, Secretary and Curator, Victoria Memorial Hall and other dignitaries will be present during the occasion.
What makes this event even more meaningful is the rich cultural ties between Thailand and India, which have flourished for centuries. Both great nations share profound historical connections, particularly through the shared love for art, religion, and mythology. The Khon performance, with its deep roots in Indian epics like the Ramayana, serves as a living testament to our intertwined cultural heritage, celebrating the enduring bond between India and Thailand.
