( Indian Railways runs 6556 special Trains during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja)

Indian Railways is set to operate 6556 special trains to facilitate smooth travel for passengers during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja from October 1 to November 30 this year as on 6 october 2024. According to Railway officials, special trains are run every year during festivals and this year, the number of trains has been significantly increased to accommodate the surge in travelers. It is noteworthy that during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals, millions of passengers travel across the country. To provide them with a smooth and comfortable journey, Indian Railways has prepared to run these special trains again this year. Last year, Indian Railways ran an impressive total of 4429 festival special trains, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for millions of passengers.
Eastern Railway takes the initiative to run Puja special trains to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic, ensuring convenient and comfortable transportation options for all travelers. Recognizing the significant demand for travel during the upcoming Puja, Diwali, and Chhath, Eastern Railway has decided to run 390 trips of train which will generate more than 4 Lakhs berths by running twenty pairs Puja special in various directions to meet the high demand. These special trains will immensely help passengers who wish to travel and return home from their workplaces across different parts of the country during the Puja season. These special trains will depart from key stations including Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata Terminal, Asansol, Bhagalpur and Malda Town, and will serve major destinations such as Khatipura, Udhna, Vadodara, Digha, Puri, Jaynagar, Patna, New Jalpaiguri, Lucknow, Haridwar, Gorakhpur, Secunderabad, Pune, New Delhi Raxaul and Anand Vihar stations.
Every year, a large number of people from all over the country travel to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja. These festivals are not only of religious significance for the people of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar but also provide an important opportunity to reunite with their families. Due to the heavy rush of passengers during the festive season, most trains see their tickets go on the waiting list two to three months in advance.
