Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will set up budget hotels across the country.
It has already earmarked an investment of Rs.500 crores for setting up budget hotels in tourism destinations across the country in the first phase.
IRCTC sources said that they are already discussing with various state governments about setting up these budget hotels.
Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam governments have evinced interest in the IRCTC’s proposal to set up budget hotels.
In Kohima and in Khajuraho such budget hotels will be set up. In Kevadiya in Gujarat also construction has begun.
The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed to set up budget hotels in Lucknow, Ayodhya and Varanasi.
The Madhya Pradesh government has proposed to set up budget hotels in Ujjain and Bhopal, sources said.
Currently IRCTC runs budget hotels under the brand name of Ginger, RailYatri Niwas, these are all leased properties.
The budget hotels of IRCTC are now located in Puri, Ranchi, New Delhi, Howrah and katra.
IRCTC is a CPSU which provides ticketing, catering and tourism services to Indian Railways.
The company has launched a six days five nights  Rs.14,170 package tour to Tirupati Balaji Darshan by railways from Bhagalpur. The package includes  three tier ac tickets, three meals, intra city transportation and stay at the hotels. The departure will be every Wednesday.
About 20 million pilgrims visit Tirumala every year to worship Lord Sree Venkateswara.
