After a hiatus of almost two years, the Pujilal Sahib Sewa Mandli has organised a colourful procession along with a bike rally in Kolkata today on the occasion of the Sindhi New Year Celebrations.
Due to outbreak of the covid -19 pandemic the procession and bike rally could not take place in the past two years. There has been tremendous enthusiasm amongst the members of the sindhi community as over two members of the sindhi community participated in the procession and bike rally.
No sound system was used during the entire procession which started from 1/A Free School Street to Sudder Street, Chowringhee lane and returned back to 1/A Free School Street through the same route.
Talking to www.thetravelandtourismtimes.com, Mr. Uttam Israni, President of Pujlal Sahib Sewa Mandli , situated in Free School Street said that the procession and bike rally was organisred after two years to mark the Sindhi new year or Cheti Chand celebrations and also the birth anniversary of Saint Jhulelal, the festival marks the arrival of spring and the harvesting season.
Around 2000 sindhi families live in the City of Joy.
Mr. Anil Punjabi, President of Vishwa Sindhi Sewa Samity (VSSS) West Bengal Chapter was also present and took part in the procession and bike rally today. “ With the world restoring back to normalcy once again, this year the mood of every body is high and the celebrations are also granduer compared to previous years. We all pray about peace, prosperity and harmony on this day,’added Mr. Anil Punjabi.
The God of water is worshipped today by all the members of the sindhi community.
