Railway staff at the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) Loco Shed today has showcased exemplary public service today by clearing heavy debris from a collapsed structure to ensure road safety before seeking treatment for their own injuries.
A section of the historic loco shed collapsed earlier today following torrential rain and severe wind patterns. The collapse injured seven to eight railway workers on duty and dumped significant rubble onto the adjacent roadway, creating immediate hazards for passing vehicles and pedestrians.

Debris Cleared Under Duress:
Despite sustaining injuries in the collapse, the loco shed personnel immediately rallied to clear the fallen debris from the roadside. They prioritized restoring traffic flow and securing the area for the local community before departing for medical evaluation.
Casualties and Restoration:
- Injuries: All affected personnel were later transported to local medical facilities. Medical staff confirmed that none of the injuries are serious or life-threatening.
- Commendation: Local authorities and medical staff commended the workers for their selfless conduct, noting that their swift action prevented potential road accidents.
- Current Status: An inspection of the remaining historic structure is currently underway to assess structural damages, and restoration work has already begun.
