BREAKING NEWS : ONLINE CLASSES TO BEGIN FROM 18 SEPTEMBER IN KOZHIKODE, The EPICENTRE OF NIPAH VIRUS OUTBREAK IN KERALA , WHILE 11 PERSONS HAVE TESTED NEGATIVE SO FAR

KOLKATA, 16 SEPTEMBER 2023:

The district administration has announced that schools, colleges and online coaching instutes will remain closed in Kozhokode district in wake of the Nopah Virus Outbreak, while the state government has claimed that 11 persons have so far tested negative.

There has been no reports of any new positive cases in Kerala today.  So far six people have tested positive and two of them have died.

Till today 21 persons have been admitted at the isolation ward at Kozhikode Government Medical College. They are from Mallapuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Thrissur.

So far 1080 people have been identified in the contact list of the  first victim, out of which 297 are in  high risks category,  including 122 health workers.

The district administration has issued notifications to start online classes from 18 September till further orders, presently  schools, coilleges and private tuition centres will remained closed in Kozhikode district till 24 September.

This is the third occasion that Nipah virus outbreak has occurred in Kozhikode. The earlier twice being in 2018 and in 2021. In Ernakulam NiV broke out in 2019.

To trace the persons who have contacted with the second death victim, the Kerala government has directed the police to trace through the mobile tower locations.

“ This is our main priority now to trace all the persons who have come in contact with the second victim. Already we have identified the persons who have come in contact with the first victim,”said a  government official.

Antobodies from Australia has been ordered to combat the current situation. NiV has neither any specific medicine  to treat nor  have any vaccines till date.

Restrictions has also been imposed at the Beypore Port. Kerala Health Minister Veena Goeorge held a high level meeting today to assesh the present situation.

She said that the state government is trying to trace the origin of the outbreak of the Nipah Virus in Kozhikode this time.
