The 950 square feet of space, situated on the first floor of Kolkata’s posh shopping plaza, Dhanshinapan in Dhakuria has turned up virtually into a Mini Rajasthan these days draped in the world famous Rajasthani art and cultures.
Rajasthali – the Rajasthan Government’s art and craft sales emporium set up on August 1988 has been becoming immensely popular not only for the bongs of Kolkata, who are known as the connoisseurs of Rajasthani art and culture but equally also the non resident bengalis and foreigners who visit the City of Joy every year.
Stunning works of art and craft of virtually every part of Rajasthan, which are world famous are available in this emporium in Kolkata.
Prakash Chand Sharma, former manager of Rajasthali says that since the past five years the sales have been northbound and a wide range of products are now available.
“ During every Durga Puja, Bengali New Year and other such occasions, the Bengali population comes here for marketing. Even the NRIs and foreigners who visit during the winter season visit our emporium and take back mementos of Rsajasthan’s world famous works on art and culture,” added Mr. Prakash Chand Sharma.
Talking to The Travel and Tourism Times, Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, who has taken the additional charge recently as the Officer in Charge of Rajasthali, Kolkata said that this prestigious establishment , which is under the of Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation is located in Dakshinapan, the heart of the city of Kolkata, which is popularly called as the City of Joy and it has so far maintained its reputation by having various products of Rajasthan under one roof.
“We will give more focus in improving the image of our Rajasthan state Government , further, Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation and our Department. Along with this, under the guidance of our departmental senior officials and all the working personnel including counter salesmen and women , all together will work hard to further increase the brand image of Rajasthan in Kolkata and will leave no stone unturned in increasing its income,” added Mr. Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo.
Mr, Hinglaj Dan Ratnoo, who is also the officer in charge of Rajasthan Tourism Information Centre in Kolkata and also the Assistant Director of Rajasthan Information and Culture has already set new records in tourism business from this state.
Ms. Papri Chakraborty, of Rajasthali in Kolkata said that the handwoven Dari carpets of Jaipur, furniture of Ramgarh Shekhawati, a small town in Sikar district which is also famous for its fresco paintings, Azrek print bed cover and sari of Bermer , cotton pichwai paintings – the world famous folk art of Nathdwara, sarees of Bandhej, Kota, Sanganeri print, ready made garments like ghagra choli, kurti,jacket, bangles, jewellery sets with natural gemstones, world famous meena jewellery , bangles, ladies and gents wear, skirt and tops, suit sets, table cover, statue ( wooden and stone)show piece, cushion cover, pillows, gift items, brass metal items, etc have very good demand amongst the customers.
The saree ranges are between Rs.800 to Rs.8000 and bed cover ranges are also between Rs.800 to Rs.5000.
Incidentally about 90 percent of the customers are Bengali. There is a very deep rooted art and cultural connection and bonding between Bengal and Rajasthan since a very long time which has been further cemented by Swami Vivekananda and Satyajit Ray.
All the staff of Rajasthali in Kolkata are very cordial and knowledgeable and believe in ‘ Atithi Devo Bhava’.
