Aman Thapa of Nepal and Yunyoung cho of South Korea emerged toppers in men’s and women’s categories respectively in the International Paragliding Festival organized at Vagamon by the State Tourism Department and the Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society (KATPS). The March 19-23 event at Kolahalamedu Adventure Park near Vagamon featured contests in six categories, with 49 participants from eleven countries.
Of them, 15 were from abroad. In the Team category, Team Younghwa, with members from both South Korea and India, emerged the winner. Coming second was Fly Varkala and Orangelife Paragliding came third. KATPS Chief Executive Officer Mr. Binu Kuriakose gave away the prizes to the winners of the Vagamon International Accuracy Cup 2025, as the curtains came down on the event.
The felicitation function on Sunday evening was attended, among others, by local body members Mr. Pradeep Kumar and Mr. Shine. The runner-up in the men’s category was Eman Rumtel (India), while his compatriot Sonam Ladakhi finished third. Jungmin Kang (Korea) finished second in the women’s category followed by Ayana Askar (Kazakhstan). The first, second, and third place winners received prizes of Rs 1.5 lakh, Rs 1 lakh, and Rs 50,000 respectively.
The overall winner was Aman, followed by Eman and Yunyoung. The event, with the approval and technical cooperation of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the 1905-founded world governing body for air sports, was co-organised by the Aeroclub of India. Fly Vagamon was the local organiser.
The competitions were held in the following categories: Paragliding Accuracy (Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Women), Paragliding Accuracy (Team), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Overall), Paragliding Accuracy (Indian Women) and Paragliding Accuracy (Junior). Kolahalamedu, located four km from Vagamon near Peerumedu, is among the best places for paragliding. Situated at an altitude of 3,000 feet, the place is particularly favourable for take-off and landing. Adding to the benefits are the cool climate, tea gardens, grasslands and the woods.
