LATEST NEWS : BIHAR TOURISM SECRETARY HOLDS REVIEW MEETING ON PREPARATIONS FOR SHRAVANI MELA

Tourism Secretary Shri Lokesh Kumar Singh on Wednesday held a detailed review meeting at the Tourism Department office regarding preparations for the Shravani Mela with senior departmental officials and District Magistrates of Bhagalpur, Munger, and Banka who joined through video conferencing.

Addressing all officials, the Tourism Secretary said that the Shravani Mela is scheduled to be organized from 30 July to 28 August. The Tourism Department is required to provide all necessary facilities for Kanwariyas during the fair, including tent cities, toilets, bathing facilities, safe drinking water, uninterrupted electricity, Kanwar stands, information services, and entertainment arrangements.

He directed all officials to prepare action plans and finalize the work at the earliest to make the entire Shravani Mela route fully dedicated to Lord Shiva. From Baba Ajgaibinath Temple in Sultanganj to Dumma on the Bihar border, the fair route should feature grand gates, special lighting, decorations, and the continuous resonance of Shiva chants. Keeping this in mind, arrangements should be made at Ajgaibinath, Sultanganj, and all tent cities according to local requirements through light and sound shows, fountain shows, laser shows, drone shows, and other presentations highlighting the significance of the Shravani Mela.

For accommodation of Kanwariyas and devotees between Sultanganj and Dumma on the Bihar border, Secretary Shri Lokesh Kumar Singh directed the construction of tent cities with the following capacities:

  • Baba Ajgaibinath, Sultanganj:500 beds (earlier 200 beds)
  • Abrakha (Banka district):600 beds
  • Dhauri:200 beds (for the first time)
  • Godiyari:250 beds (for the first time)
  • Khaira (Munger):200 beds
  • Dhobai:200 beds
  • Asarganj:300 beds (for the first time)
  • Tarapur:200 beds
  • Sangrampur:200 beds

All tent cities will have complete arrangements for Kanwar stands, drinking water, toilets, cleanliness, electricity, and health facilities. This year, Jeevika Didi’s Kitchen will also be arranged in all tent cities.

Cultural programs will be organized throughout the fair period at all tent cities. The Secretary directed that national-level artists will perform during the inauguration and closing ceremonies of the Shravani Mela. In all tent cities created for accommodation, state-level artists will perform every Monday, while district-level artists will perform on the remaining days.

For the selection of artists, he directed all District Magistrates to constitute district-level screening committees.

In Bhagalpur, 25 Swiss cottages will be constructed on the lines of the Sonepur Mela, for which the administration will provide the required land.

The meeting was attended by Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Managing Director Shri Nand Kishore, Tourism Director-cum-Special Secretary Shri Udayan Mishra, Jeevika CEO Shri Himanshu Sharma, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation General Manager Shri Chandan Chauhan, along with all concerned officers and staff members.
